any way to speed this game up even more (aside from obvious fast foward on tab key?)
ive put almost 20 hours into this, and I kind of really want to nerd out on it, because the game mechanics seem cool, but even in fast forward mode it takes way too long to do anything. im always hesitant to start a new game, because the first game session is going to be only like 5 cycles and absolutely nothing interesting happens. beyond that, the interesting things to do increases, but the time it takes to do anything also increases, so it doesnt really improve.

anyone else encounter feeling this way and solve it somehow? can the time warp values be edited? mods? something? i want to like it, but i cant motivate to hit the play button and watch dupes spend forever just to dig a tunnel. god forbid you ever decide to sweep, might as well get up and go make a sandwich while the game keeps running.

to be constructive, ill throw out this suggestion. have another level of timewarp. this wouldnt be accessed by cycling the tab key. instead it would be a separate UI element, with its own button and hotkey. this would be an INSANE level of timewarp, like whatever your CPU can handle or 1000x or something, BUT would auto-pause whenever the dupes have completed any jobs created by the player. obviously youd have to be careful with it, because sometimes conditions can change quickly, or dupes do some dumb thing like fall into water without a ladder, etc, but the player could just choose to take the risk and/or be careful. this way game balance is preserved, its not cheaty like using sandbox, but you also dont have to watch the game like its ant farm or something, and spend more time playing than watching.

The game is what is is. So no. Try a racing game next time.

no need to be negative.

I actually know someone who has similar thoughts on certain games. "Can't the guys do this faster?" or "Why does this take forever?".

I'll tell you what I told him: Why don't you sit back and enjoy the game? Why does it have to go faster? You'll only end up finishing the game faster. Take it slow and enjoy the game.

what pace is enjoyable is a subjective personal preference. I -could- give reasons, but they arent relevant to the topic and that discussion would just become a distraction.

the topic of the thread is a technical question, not a philosophical one.

I just can't see how it would be enjoyable at mach 20 speed.

that is your subjective personal preference, and as such, cannot be wrong. that is totally fine and just as valid as my preference or anyone else's. again, preferences arent the point of the thread. this isnt a complaint thread, im just asking about customization options. its either possible or not. if so, id like to know how, whether its tweaking game files, using a tool, a mod, etc, etc. or if not, ive left constructive feedback and a useful suggestion.

To go any faster(ingame speed) i dont know, what i do know is.
you gave an example of endlessly digging a tunnel, stuff like that or building can go faster with more dupes.
for that you need more oxygen and food.

i've seen bases(the basics) done within 25 to 40 cycles with 12-20 dupes
if you only have around 8 dupes stuff goes slow
so that's an option.

another problem is the way you build or dig.
stuff i did was try and dig to the oil biome without a suit.
co2 goes down, they are in it the whole time cant breathe, build 1 thing and run back.

so that will also be a something to improve.

you also said you want to nerd out, in what kind of way? experiments? like a known youtuber called brothgar. build setups to see what you can do with elements in the game?
you can use sandbox mode for this, create everything instant.

you could enable debug menu and then press alt+z to get debug super speed ( about double the normal max speed)

Honestly the game has enough trouble tracking the physics as is it is. Making things run faster would just break stuff faster. You would probably be happier in the sandbox
