issue with critter drop-off
I have a closed critter room set up like in the picture below
https://ibb.co/3BTNr19

The issue is that dupes never auto-wrangle critters. Why can that be?

Never you say? Looks like you haven't even try to wait for at least 5 cycles.
Maybe you should and check what happens then.

Yes, never. I've had this setup for about 20 cycles and manually catch critters when there's 15-20 in the room. Dupes never do it by themselves.

Dupes cannot catch baby critters.

Do you have a drop off for the baby version of the critters? They are named differently.

A hatchling becomes a hatch for instance. If your other space is just for hatches, the hatchlings will not get moved until they have grown up.

It's as Angpaur wrote - turns out there is a bug that causes baby critters to not get auto-wrangled

First, need to check off the adult versions you want auto-wrangled. Second, need a place (drop off) for them to be taken to, with a higher priority.

Re: baby critters -- I had a baby get wrangled last night, but all of the following were true:
1. Dupe with Rancher skill (but wearing Farmer II hat).
2. Closed-off room, but dupe had permission to enter.
3. Room had a drop-off station, which had been checked-enabled for ALL critters.
4. Priority of drop-off station had been set to 7.
5. Baby creature had been spawned from Printer Pod, and immediately manually clicked "Wrangle" and priority set to 7.
6. Just about every other priority in the base is always at default/5.
7. Priorities screen for the Farmer-Rancher Dupe had both of those set to "Very High" (proximity also happens to be set).
8. Using current stable/main build of game; not a beta branch build.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and the closed-in area also was 2 levels of pre-existing dirt, with the only container for storing seeds (particularly Arbor seeds), in hopes of a certain kitty-owl to come a-planting. Alas, the resulting tree took too long to grow branches so he died of hunger. :(
Stupid mineral asteroid...

He's having trouble with auto-wrangling of baby critters, not manual wrangling of them that you describe.
