Liquid filter is the worst thing that doesn't filter water
I tried hooking it up different ways. No matter how what I do, it always produce polluted water. Video please of the proper way to set up.

Are you sure you have the right block as the liquid filter is designed to remove 1 liquid from a pipe and put it into another

Liquid filter is designed to separate one liquid from all other liquids that have got into a pipe.
Water sieve is designed to convert polluted water into standard water, at the expense of filtration medium and some power.

I suspect the OP thinks a liquid filter CLEANS polluted water. It doesn't...it just sorts liquids, not change them.

If you are trying to make water from polluted water, you need the water sieve.

Thank you. Time to start a new game now. Spent an hr trying to figure why the liquid filter wasn't working. using it all wrong.

Why start a new game?

I focused more on trying to figure out the filter thing that my colony was already doomed. Polluted water, low oxygen, my people dying, radiation, everything falling apart. I never played this game before and I already doomed my colony lol. Barely researched anything.

Since you are new, I recommend reading this guide:

https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/94932-a-guide-to-bridges-and-how-they-help-you-achieve-efficiency-and-flow/

If you can master bridges (it works for pipes, ducts, rails) the game becomes easier to make idiot-proof systems.

this is why they need to call it a splitter and not a filter

Oxygen not included already has magical: Liquids in pipes don't mix. They needed to come up with something that can just magically split liquids, so they just made the distinction between filters and sieves. Filters can already have the meaning of removing unwanted things from input and a lot of people who used programs with filter options will know that meaning. You can just read one line of description to get the use.

Except a splitter is an even worse description? It doesn't split anything, it takes a packet and redirects it if it is of a specific type, ergo, it's a filter.

Even if the OP didn't bother reading the description, the menu to select the item you were FILTERING should've been a pretty obvious indicator that it had nothing to do with cleaning water (not to mention the gas variant you unlock at the same time if I recall).

The only thing I will say is the 'Water Sieve' is probably not the clearest definition, but then this term may be technically correct (if you worked in sewage treatment for example).
