Revocation of the game after release
Well, as pretty much everyone is aware off, Klei decided to indeed go for Epic and although there's nothing official now, the possibility of making it an epic exlusive after the final release update in a few weeks is indeed given (especially as A LOT of crowdfounded/EA games are going epic exclusive after cash grabbing on Steam/Kickstarter for a while).

What will happen to all those customers which have bought it on Steam?

If you think the game is going to be an Epic Story exclusive after 2+ years of EA on Steam. Then you are flipping tarded.

Exactly the reason I thought about Klei going Epic Exclusive, the delay was probably just made because they're negotiating with Epic right now

wats that epic crap anyways ?:brownegg:

TLDR: Epic has their own PC game platform now similar to Valve.

Epic seems to take a much lower cut of the price than Valve does so developers get more of the money we spend. I believe that cut they take is further reduced if the developers uses Epic's own game development software to make their games.

It's certainly not all sunshine and roses in the Epic garden but it looks like they will become viable competition for Steam. Apart from the reduced cut, developers might also be attracted because it looks like we, the customer, cannot review the games we buy there and there are no "discussion" boards so that games and their fans can't get 'trashed' by angry players. This is a growing trend.

Again forced competition is not real competition. If their platform was really viable and competitive they would not have to resort to strong arming the customers they say they care so much about.
They don't care about the customer experience at all I would argue and the developers/publishers that are falling for it to make a little extra money off their game initially will in the long run destroy what trust and good will they might have had with their potential customer base.

I am not a business guy but even to me that does not sound like a good thing.

As for me just one guy? I will NEVER buy a game from Epic just based on their business practices nor will I buy a game that started as a locked down timed exclusive on Epic even after it comes to Steam or anywhere else.
The only vote we have as consumers is with our wallets. I would advise everyone to decide for themselves, do we as PC gamers want to endorse the anti-consumer practices that are so popular in the console market? Each person has to decide that.

And before anyone says well what about Ubisoft or Origin selling games exclusive on their own platform stores? That is a totally different thing. They are the developers and if they want to chance starting their own store to distribute their games I cannot argue against that. I still think it would be a mistake on their part but it is a very different thing than forcing customers onto a 3rd party platform with questionable motives and security not to mention a very questionable future.

Just my take but what do I know :)

I can't imagine they would just stop all services and not update their games on Steam.
There's been a few games that have moved to Epic. Does anyone know if they're still updated or not?

There was a game, "Ocendia and the missing sun" or something like that. It was on sale on Steam, then they took it to an Epic exclusive. Purchasers were told everything Epic offered for the game, including updates and patches, would be included for Steam purchasers. No idea if they followed though or not.

its bull crep to sell games for cash anyways. 25 years ago , games were written by students for fun , think about playing hide and seek with friends and taking cash from every person for joining...

######

i remember there was game support platform called xfire , which went downroad because they wanted to be better than anyone by making xfire 2 that was shotdown faster than it was launched.

and in the end , nowadays , games are soo dirt cheap , u just can get them by doing few days of work. installing crapload of software just to safe like 3$ is waste of time.

25 years ago I was buying games and playing them so I'm not sure where you're getting this games should be free from. I have no problem throwing money at any quality product since I'm a adult and like to get paid for my work. It would make me a hypocrite to think I should be entertained for free when people put a lot of work into this form of entertainment.

They do take a smaller cut then Steam and even less of a cut if you use Unreal Engine to make the game. I don't see Epic becoming a viable competition. We already have GOG, Origin, Battlenet and Uplay. Origin and Battlenet, have a lot of exclusives between them and they still are not competition. Sure people play those exclusives on that platform because the only other choice is to not play them. While many people will not play them. People for years have claimed the new platform will be competition for Steam. Yet Steam has a 15 year head start over Epic store when it comes to features and foundation.

But any sales on Steam will show the developer sales numbers of Steam vs Epic. If the developers find they get a lot more sales on Steam they might realize that exclusive deals aren't worth it. If the sales number on Steam are lowered because people wont buy the game. The developer will just assume the Epic store is the smarter move.

Coming back to the Epic Store being competition it's really hard to estimate and predict. Valve is a private corporation so there is no way to really tell how much money they make or are worth. In 2017 Steam was estimated to make Valve ~$4.3 Billion. This is a lot more then Epic games making ~$2.4 Billion from Fortnite. If Fortnite hasn't peaked in revenue/player base yet it will.

These game fads come and go. This is why Epic is spending as much as they can to build out and up their store. While they may only invest in their store with this new found revenue they may spread it out more. Depending on how the Store and other ventures work out they may or may not crash and burn.

While we don't know how much money Valve can waste or throw at Steam we do know they apparently have enough money to invest in things like their own VR platform. Also that Steamlink to name a few. Only Steam knows how well those projects have worked out. So they may have very well hurt the money they bring in from Valve.

What we know for sure is a lot of people are PO'd about the current Epic Store business model. We also know a lot of people are uninterested in using the Epic Store in it's current state. It's safe to assume a large user base of Steam wont give Epic Store serious consideration for at least a few years well Epic Store features get fleshed out.

In summary all we really have to go by is a few facts and a lot of speculation. Yet I do find it enjoyable to speculate and make our own predictions. Only time will tell how this works out.

Don't think they will make it exclusive, Klei just want people to play their games... and money of course, the curse of being any kind of developer.

Selling it on EGS, probably, going exclusive? Very unlikely.
