Duplicants drowning themselves in Crude Oil
I have a shaft that was flooded with over-pressurized crude oil which, itself, is not a problem. The problem is the single muckroot sitting at the very bottom of the shaft in scalding hot oil.

Is there any way to keep my duplicants from trying to go for it? They have a fridge full of food, but they insist on burning themselves to death/drowning to get this one muckroot.

Put a locked door/airlock on the path?

Disallow muckroot in all of your storage buildings.

That's what I ended up doing, but there should be something simpler like forbidding said resources they keep going after.

What's simplier than forbidding an area which is now super dangerous? That's also exactly what people do in real life...

go into consumables and forbid your dupes from eating it

It's horrible. A couple of saves ago I had a path that led to dupes being overheated, falling into the oil, and slowly screaming themselves to death. I could not break ladders fast enough to keep from them all dying.

There should be rot and destruction a lot more. Leavin mealcakes on the bottom of your water supply should rot them in a cycle.(most common reason I can figure they are there is Dupes drop stuff constantly on ladders.) If it is hot then heat should cause destruction as well by char, and ash development. Pressure, O2, and temp should spawn fire storms in a lot of atomspheres Natural gas leaking out everywhere mixed with O2 and them digging in it, BOOM! Quick ways to deplete O2.

This would be the best answer. But such is a skill known only by dwarves and rimworlders, but not dupes.

If you already toying with crude you shouldnt really eating muckroot anymore
I would remove those of the edible list and let the lost one rot

That said it would be nice to be able to forbid item/material from being transported/used

What if you mark it for sweeping and set its priority to 1? Not really a long term solution, though.

Another solution that has the added benefit of giving you more control over your store (for the price of some extra micromanagement) is setting all your storage to "sweep only".
