Hot tub shenanigans
I decided that I needed some rec buildings and wanted to try the hot tub for the first time. I was unsure of the temperature required, but thought I'd wing it with my 71 degree steam geyser water+misc with a couple of aquatuners. My problem is that with two tuners I get it down to about 51 and with three down to 35.
35, brilliant! Obviously my hot tub will work now, hooray! But no, of course not. It is "too cold". Has anyone at Klei ever sat in 35 degree water before at all? Inquiring minds want to know!
Anyway, I can choose between 51 degree water, 35 degree water (not cold) and 19 degree water for my hot tub. How do people get this thing to work?
Also, why is it just dumping the water right out again? This behavior forced me to relay lots of pipes, since it's the only item with a liquid outtake that does this.

Seriously, I'm about to sour completely on hot tubs here. So much fiddly hassle to set up a rec building with the most absurdly restrictive temperature requirements in the history of rec buildings.

Water has to be above 37 degrees. tub has to be below 37 degrees. Since it is a building, one of the best ways to thermally transfer heat out of it is through a dab of liquid. *(much like a plastic machine or space robo miner)

I never found a problem with water coming out too quick, it only comes out if it has reached its threshold, in which case I would imagine your 35 or 19 degree water would just run right through it.
Water seems to take a long time to cool down and so when i put in 100kg of 80 degree water, it lasted a LOT of dupes using it.

I would rank this to be the 2nd or 3rd most annoying rec building to use, at least it gives decent morale.

What's the 1st or 2nd?
Also I can't read your message. I'll be using my phone for Internet for the next month and for some reason Steam messaging won't work.

Its purely subjective, But I feel that the Sauna is the worst Rec building to deal with. You need something like 100 kg of steam, or 100 packets / 200 packets from 1 pump, to use once, for a paltry +2 morale.*? Maybe late game that's not a big issue, but its a pain in the arse to get THAT much steam moved for a single application. At least the temps drop pretty quickly and the sauna didnt heat up much, but DANG.

2nd worse imo, would be either the hottub because of needing to cool the building since the water just dumps its heat into the building, *I've yet to figure out a great way of doing this, my method gives some wet feet debuffs all the time.
OR
Juicer. Because I really am not a fan of farming large varieties of different things, and keeping them equally stored safely* for use in a juicer.....

Not a fan of how much water the soda fountain consumes, but its easy to deal with, just expensive. Water cooler is such a small boost, I just ignore them **(neither of these are hard to deal with, so I didn't think they deserved to be on the 'annoying to deal with list'

And yeah, just messaged ya bout thanks for accepting the friend request, that I'm a fellow Canadian, I love ONI, if you had any comments or questions bout Automation, and wishing you a merry christmas/hannakah/quanza/new year :D

Hahaha. Same to you! And I agree with your choices. I never tried the Sauna yet, but my Hot Tub still hasn't worked, and I thought the same about the Juicer. I did plop down a Soda Fountain though, and plugged an exhaust pipe from a generator into it. Yum. Lol

Actually I mean the exhaust is plugged into a canister filler, that's in my Rec Room, since there's no input on the Fountain.

OK, not to be complainy and difficult, but I still have no idea how to make the hot tub work. The sauna was surprisingly easy by comparison. My only problem there is that my steel pump takes heat damage, which I intend to solve with clever automation.
But the damn hot tub. I originally built it out of gold, but that made it too hot. Then I built it out of wolframite to spread the heat. And that worked so the dupes were able to use it for half a second, before jumping out again because the water was too hot. But the tub took heat damage and broke, so I went back to gold.
Because my water was too hot I have tried to dump some of the heat by putting regular pipes going into the tub, but I overdid it and now the water is too cold. While the gold tub is too hot, mind you, so that was a novel twist. My plan now is to micro the pipe segment in the picture below until the water entering the tub is just right. Except that I have no idea what temperature that is. I did try pumping 35 degree water in, and that made the tub too hot for the dupes. I have tried 31 degree water, and that is too cold.

Almost starting to wonder if this building is working as intended.

Water between 37.7c - 99.9c, Tub < 37.7c
AFAIK, that's literally the only temperature requirements.
I'll set up my tub room tonight and take a screenshot of a working system, so we both know I'm not just blowing hot air ;)
My information for temp is based on using it in sandbox mode to see how it worked. I don't see it being a problem for my current survival game.

i just use the saunas output to heat the tub. I also cool the room with 20°C Hydrogen and boil the water with the termoregulator. With this move i got steam for the sauner, the sauner gives me hot water for the tub and the tub emptys itself into the boilerroom with the termo.
Works semi fine but it works.
I run into the problem that the termo reaches its goal of 20°C and need MORE warm gas to cool so i start cooling my bace with it! Will be fun!

That sounds like a good idea. I did get it working by adding some temp plates. But I still need the skim on the floor apparently. I do have a steam vent right outside the door, so boiling water is not the approach I'm using, but cooling the steam down. I'll try hooking the sauna output onto the tub, though. Maybe it'll help.
But the biggest problem I have is that the tub keeps getting too hot when the dupes use it. Thought the temp shift plates would be enough, but they're not.

Sorry this took longer than expected. General stuff and IRL stuff to contend with.

Hot tub is working beautifully in my base, though since I have most rec buildings now, even with 4 slots for rest, Many dupes dont get to the tub. However It works just fine.

Small bit on how I did it: I have the hot tub and bleach in water to transmit heat through the building to the liquid.
Hot tub room is the first room in my cooling loop for my base, so it gets the heat pulled out first. This keeps the tub cool enough.
I have an auxillary water tank to heat up the water to and from the tub,
This keeps the water warm enough.

I've got a dupe with 62 morale, and he was eating BBQ iirc >.>; LOVE all the toys to play with, my base now looks more like a home than a sweat shop :D
