Chlorine management

I didn't notice where i was digging and i opened a chlorine biome near a mushoom farm. How would i remove the chlorine, and possibly manage the excess oxygen near the top.

Would plain digging up and down solve this?

EDIT: Didn't notice the hydrogen buildup either. Probably going to have to dig more. Right?

Build pumps to vacuum out the area, then refill it with carbon dioxide.

I also don't think that this is going to work without a liquid lock because of the tight tolerances (one extra tile of oxygen will shut down your farm)

No. Chlorine floats on top of CO2 so digging just means that you need to add more CO2 to go back to the same problem.

You need to allow gases to move. A one tile ladder is not enough for your entire base - either make them wider or add a couple airflow tiles.

You mean isolate the farm from the rest of the base with an airlock? How about... i stick a timer on the electrolyzer? In order to throttle the oxygen generation.

Here's what i have now. Looks better right?

In theory a carbon scrubber placed on the rock crusher level should destroy all CO2 on the level where you want the dupes to work, and not destroy any CO2 on the levels below where you want mushrooms to grow.

I just don't want to commit to saying that it will work because gases moving near the gas borders might affect the farm. I myself would not do this without a mixed gas level to have a little bit of a buffer (e.g. you can put your oxygen masks in here because your farmers will want to breathe when they work)

You can try to build an airflow tile on the right wall at your highest row of mushroom and then fill the room again with CO2 ( with gas dispenser i guess ? ) .
Chlorine is lighter than CO2 , so it will be push out of the room via that airflow tile , when you are done you can plug that tile .

I would leave the 3 airflow tiles... They might not be in the SS. The coal power plant should pump out a lot of co2, which would end up in the farm.

There's a hatch in front, but i added a timer to the electorlyzer. It lets me fix the oxygen pressure. Right now, the co2 is mostly just in the farm, and a lil above the power plant.

The actual chlorine is in the lil pocket with the tiles up front. I setup a... an automation to release the co2 before it lands into the pocket. Pumped out chlorine and oxygen in there.

I haven't done a lot of mushroom farms but they do well in CO2 pits at the very bottom of your base. Chlorine is lighter than co2 so it will float over it, and gas element detectors plus pumps and/or airlock doors will help with the levels of gases. . Perhaps link the coal power plants to your automation so it stops working when the pit is full.

Edit : Also I will +1 the idea to increase gas flow over that farm. Like... build it slightly larger so you can have more stuff.

Though slime is a ♥♥♥♥♥ to store without having PO2 or slimelung germs all over. Maybe use that chlorine to make a slime storage that is both close to the farm and slimelung-safe.

I'll need atmos suits, i need to dig for coal... Soon.

Maybe replace the current oxygen masks location? I think i've stuck a bin for slime on the other side of the entrance to the masks.

EDIT: the airflow tiles work as intended. Is that what you meant? "to increase gas flow over that farm"? Timer on the electrolyzer lets me fix the pressure, to an extent.

The fried mushrooms and the saltwater lettuce make a +14 food on the +1 cooking equipment. Going to need some natural gas though. Maybe over the oil refinery, i'm already seeing the bottom of this map.

The airflow tiles go down but you've only got one tile for the CO2 to go down after the first top row of mushrooms, so the few remaining O2/chlorine tiles in your farm can't go up since the CO2 flow down on that one tile is very likely to have more pressure. My suggestion would be rebuilding that insulated tile wall one tile to the left, fill the gap with more food, and leave a 2 tile wide shaft where your ladder is. Also good for later, when you get them fire station poles and speed up dupe movement along that path.

Anytime I have a 1 tile wide shaft gas just does not move up and down (assuming equal pressures, ofc). 2 is required, 3 is ideal.

pump it into storage units outside your base. chlorine can be useful to cultivate certain plants, make a sterilization airlock, sterilize water (if it hasn't been patched), provide breathable atmosphere for certain animals, etc.

It's great for squeaky pufts, which poop bleach stone - it's the only way to get more on your asteroid, except for bringing it back from space - and if you use hand sanitizers, hot tubs, and farming waterweed, you'll need all you can get your dupe's hands on. I used to HATE getting chlorine vents on the map, and thought they were worthless, but they're really useful if you ranch squeaky pufts.

It's something I wish they'd add - we can make oxylite (and now diamonds in the DLC), but we need a building that can make bleachstone.

What you could do is store it for now via air pumps and filters. Then vent it in space later. Or use it to cool other stuff until your chlorine is hot enough, then vent that out. It's chlorine, it's semi-useless. It's also useful if you farm bleachstone, but honestly I wouldn't sweat.
