Other ways would be to drop/drip it onto lava or a volcano. But good luck with that. :) heating issues there.
But when I had food poisoning in my water all I did was have the tepdizer in a pool of water and drip the polluted water into the pool. The smaller the puddle the quicker it heats, but, it's also very energy hungry system.
The newest update allows 1700°C Molten Glass. You must cool it down anyway, so why not dump it in the Polluted Water to heat it instead of creating artifical heat. If you make enough the polluted water might even turn into steam, which cooled down is clean water again. Or maybe even use it for the steam engine to make a little power with it as well.
The refinery is also a very reliable heat source and with a little thinking you can make the heat work for you.
