Deactivating buildings?
Haven't played in a long time and I was wondering if they ever implemented any automated way to deactivate buildings/stations (for example, liquid storage tanks) without having to resort to the cringeworthy "place it on a door and open the door" kludge.

Most buildings can be connected to automation wires to turn them off; for the rest you will have to get creative.

isn't there an option now to manually deactivate buildings?

One can use a Liquid Shutoff instead of doors to control output from a Liquid Reservoir.
It costs 10W / packet, whereas using a door is free.

Manual activate / deactivate : select the building and click "enable/disable" (or use Enter key).
Or use automation (shift+F2 to see the layout) and connect sensors to your building.

An automation wire to a switch is faster. When you flip the switch it happens immediately instead of waiting for a dupe to walk all the way there to toggle the station off.

Indeed - I use that solution mainly for buildings I need to switch off quickly, pumps for example. And if you have a sensor already in place, you can just change the settings to shut the system off, so it works the same.

some automation buildings do not turn off, for example radbolt generators. they continue to use power but stop spitting out radbolts in those cases i use a electric switch.

but why would one want to deactivate a tank? what does that mean? it doesn't use power. so it doesn't empty? put a valve on it. there are automated and manual valves.
:)
