Now days I can't seam to enjoy playing much over 200 cycles, Once I locate geysers and setup power, water systems and researched everything bar space stuff I tend to just restart.
So you will have to spend considerable amount of real time to get stupidly high numbers, or you will have to leave game running overnight or something (actually fun project - automate things good enough for you to find perfectly working base in the morning :) ).
Whoever that was could have reduced cycles significantly by having more than 3 dupes doing all the work
