Germy polluted water: what to do with it?
Hello-
I was wondering if someone could give me a hint about what to do with germy polluted water. Of course there's the water sieve, but it doesn't remove germs.

Maybe there are some applications in which the germs don't matter, or a way to remove the germs? I also realize that the germs in "clean" water die eventually, but it takes a long time. I also realize there are some uses for polluted water, like for certain plants, but is it OK if it's germy?

Guzzle it all down, as quick as you can!

Ok, more seriously, the most popular method appears to be to store it in liquid reservoirs that are surrounded by chlorine gas... doesn't cost any energy, doesn't add heat to the map, and nicely makes some other stuff obsolete ie* tepidizer

You can even just leave it germy, if dupes do get food poisoning, it's only for a couple of cycles; they just go to the lavatory more frequently and give you even more free water.

IMO - use it for something that does not involve food. Anything from research or oil wells to thimble reed plants.
Sure it can be cleaned, but why bother when you need water for all those things anyway and germs do not matter there?

Run through a sieve. Set that sieves output to drop it into a basin with algae terrariums.
The polluted water that the terrariums produce will be germ free.

As you tech up you can set it to disable deliveries and use sweepers to deliver algae as needed.

If you're clever you can setup a receiving area for the pwater bottle emptier such that it has two pumps separated by mechanised airlocks. As the water drops in some automation checks for the germ level and if germs over say 1000 are detected then the doors open dropping the water to the second pump.

The first pump will deliver germ free pwater to a second sieve. The water coming out of this sieve will be germ free.

The second, lower, pump that gets any hand delivered pwater will send it back to the first sieve.

Some screen shots from my current play through. Don't mind the messy pipes.
The first sieve is the primary sieve from my base and most of its output germy water is fed right back into the base.

It's overflow, germy clean water, gets fed to the algae farm. Also use this water for electrolysers and pumping into oil reservoir. Only the water that's not used goes to the algae.

You can always pump the water into holding tanks surrounded by chlorine and with a little logic management it can be setup to be an automated process to fill / sterilize / empty / and refill.

I'm not the best at using logic let alone explaining but a few youtubers have ran this setup.

Based on what you described, I'm assuming you are reffereing to the roughly 6.7kg per cycle of extra germy PW that gets produced via Lavatories.

Plants do not care about germy water, and will not contaminate your food source if fed that water.
If your dupes touch the germy water *(via manual liquid extraction), then dupes can get sick. **(This includes germy regular water for science research, not just using germy water for food)
Use Hydroponic tiles to grow pincha pepper plants, thimble reeds, arbor trees etc, for an easy way to consume the extra PW with no consequence.
****(so long as the germs dont get out of the pipes, there is no contamination.)***

Another good use for germy PW that I found is Fertilizer Synthisizer, These helps with growing plants in your colony via farm station, but more importantly for me, these produce NG, which can be used to fuel the Gas Range to cook better meals.

You can also just purge the germs with chlorine submerged reservoirs as suggested, *(instant germ purifying is possible and easy to set up)
Or with Algae Terrariums *(i've never dabbled with these)

Thanks for the great ideas everyone, I'll try them all out a little at a time!
