What's your strategy for cleaning out a slime biome?
I've been renovating my base, which includes creating a new set of Great Halls, a new kitchen, new Bathroom, and space for dedicated bedrooms. However, in the process I've had to dig upwards into a swamp, which is something I (as a relatively new player) have been trying to avoid.

My strategy so far has been to create a create a temporary airlock/cleaning station, mining out the materials in my way; A Sweepy picks up most of the debris, while slime is placed on a conveyor rail that automatically deposits into a Chlorine chamber. The excess Chlorine (farmed off a gas vent) goes to an Ore Scrubber by the airlock, just in case any rocks get germy. Sprinkle some deodorizers around, then once the area is sufficiently clean and germ-free, I can build the walls to the new room and move further upward.

I figured it would be neat to hear what others do in the same scenario, though, so if you have any techniques you want to share, have at it!

Get a isolated base, with wall all over your base, so make 2 doors with air cleaner in between.
For a great airlock, you can create a U shape of 3 square tall, and fill with water, so your dupes can travel across.
Keep then to eat raw meals, and recicle urine. In time build a farm to cool off your base.

I mean, yeah, that's all good general practices, but I'm asking specifically for peoples' strategies on building into a swamp biome without getting slimelung all over the place.

burn it!

i kid i kid. its something i wannt try though at some point. just heat it up to the point all the slime cooks and the waters boil, then extract all the heat into a steam turbine.

i usually build a ladder grid and dig everything out top to bottom, build a storage room to store all those materials specifically incase they got germs on em and fill with chlorine. as for the slime i put that in a water storage bin to use for farming. i find digging it out by hand is often the easiest method. then if there is a natgas vent in that particular biome, i turn the entire space into nat gas storage and distribution. works pretty well and has a decent capacity usually. the vent will go dormant and if its sizeable enough i never run out of fuel.

My latest map, I actually got to try the 'burning it off', My Volcanea (SUPER Ironically spawned with 0 volcanoes) Came with the modifer: magma channels.... however not everything was abyssalite proof, and about 5 biomes had Heat pouring in.
So i insulated the biome off and eventually tackled it with atmo suits.
At which point, the coolest part of those slime biomes was roughly 150c+, and up to 400c+, so no more slime lung :D

As for general strat: I agree with Xilo for a general strat.. Also digging from the bottom up works as well, so long as slime falls into fluid, it wont offgas, releasing the slimelung.
storage containers in water with VERY HIGH priority, (or even better: teh only containers to exist), means that slime will quickly be taken to a submerged container where it wont offgas.

Slimelung is harmless if its in the water or on solids. Its only an issue if its breathed in. *(in any of the many ways it can get into the lungs of duplicants)

As a new player: go slow and steady, and deodirize EVERYTHING in case something goes awry, and make sure contaminated blocks mined fall into liquid, or stored in a container that is in liquid.
A little bit of healthy respect for the pathogen goes a long way to making sure your duplicants stay happy and healthy ;)

Mine it in such a way that all the slime falls into the pwater, which will keep most of the slimelung out of the pO2. Use a bunch of air fresheners to clean out the pO2.

nothing so elaborate... I just mine out what I need. I put a storage bin in my polluted water tank for all the slime so it doesn't off-gas and use it for either mushrooms or algae and if the PO2 gets out of hand in the mining area I stick in some deodorizers...

it's not like slimelung can kill dupes anymore so it's really only a matter of efficiency at this point and taking elaborate measures is highly inefficient.

yeah bottom up can work too but i guess it all depends on how much fluid you got in there and where it'll drain.
To echo everything that Xilo The Odd said: Top-to-bottom with a single "suits only" (~3-4 suits) nearby, slime and bleach stone stored (together) under water ~nearby, dropping air fresheners at each level down as I dig. I don't bother with whole floors, just enough for air fresheners so I don't have to clean up the air later. Hand sanitizer just outside the suits' exit.

In the current build, slime lung is not really a problem.. I still gear my dupes up with exo-suits though.. old habit maybe?

i build a few storage compactors in a small pool of liquid and set them to store only slime, priority 9

Next, i send dupes in to build autominer/battery/manual generator "units" and let them dig it all out... the dupes grab the slime and dump it into the storage compactors for later processing.

build a bunch of deodorizers and let them clean the air for a few cycles.

I started using my surplus plastic to line passages through swamp biome and a series of deodorizers to clean the air. I set up a drop off point with an autosweeper that sends the slime into a sealed room with the algae distillers and use the water for a tropical pacu pond.

Some say strip out the whole biome, some say pump magma in and burn it all. Personally, I keep it mostly intact and sterilize the open spaces once construction is done. With some pips, reed seeds, arbor seeds, shine bugs, and plastic rooms, it looks nice. Glass in your pacu ponds too. Just because you can, not because it is or is not meta.

i mean being infected with slime lung does cause your dupes some amount of turmoil and reduces their efficiency with them needing to go take a breath more often. even in oxygen spaces.

besides exo suits allow them to go into the heat and cold and not complain about it. more or less its a morale boost of sorts.
unless you're playing on the hardest settings slime is nothing anymore. just go at it. oh no your dups get a cough for a couple of cycles. whatever. toss a storage bin in a pool of polluted water and just stick all the slime in that. few deodorizers and some buddy plants stuck around and good to go. i dont even think about them anymore. just clear out the area.

Since the live and slimelung got nerfed I have no respect for it.

As long as you have good O2 saturation slimelung is not a big deal. If you have a low O2 problem you can run into a loop where people are trying to decide if they are going to eat or breathe which can be frustrating but honestly if you are hitting that you have bigger problems than slimelung.

You can always just pump in some chlorine and wait for the slimelung to die.

that'll clean it off all the solids in the room, but it does little to clean out the gasses since they separate. unless you wanted to turn the whole space into a vacuum and store all non chlorine in gas tanks. but its easier to just hit the space with purifiers and suck out all the Co2 to use in a oxyfern or slickster farm for disposal.
