Why the ♥♥♥♥ are 7 full ranches not enough to feed 14 dupes?!?
Are you kidding me? :)
I got 7 fully automated ranches (3 hatches, 4 dreckos) and I still need a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of other crap to feed em. Ranching is terrible if it's not shove voles eh. Probably ♥♥♥♥♥♥ even then.
Now, I'm lazy about using incubators, but still, that should ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suffice.

Dreckos and hatches are fairly long lived, the eggs from them are a nice supplement but you'll need something else as a staple, or some other sources.

Wild grown sleet wheat for instance, there's so many plants in a frozen biome that if you keep even one of those areas good and cold it'll be a decent supply for frost buns, and if you got some peppernuts growing somewhere then you can get some pepper bread occasionally too.
A pip ranch may also help if you got those, a small ranch with 3 pips and a wild arbor tree can churn out eggs quite regularly.

Those critters were more made for their other job than as food.

Also are you upgrading the food to their max potential?

My base of 19 dupes rely completely on wild plants and hatches and a few Drekos and I’m still good.

Most of my sources have been wild as well save for a small mushroom farm. a passive pacu tank takes up a fair bit of space but the fillets I get every so often sure helps. As for the pip ranch idea I tossed in my previous post, if securing them and said tree is a hassle, another hatch ranch would likely do better.

You automated grooming?

If you aren't grooming them, they won't produce enough eggs (or excreta) to be worth the space.

Something is fishy here. Using barbecue which is pure meat and nothing else you need 21 hatches to feed 14 dupes. That's 3 almost full ranches.

Something is indeed fishy.
Yeah they're being groomed, the automated part is the killing/sending meat to kitchen part so they're never cramped and one of my dupes is assigned to only cooking.

I don't understand how the hell this could be.

I'm even complementing it with a few bristle berries and two pip-planted lettuce farms. And I need to make dirt sandwiches or they starve.

I can't have good pip-farms cuz im on aridio so there's no sleet wheat which is what like 90% of recipes count on lol

It makes no sense

Unless you are using incubators it takes 20 cycles to reach full speed. If you filled them up recently that could be the issue. Then all you need to do is wait.

I would doublecheck that they are being groomed though. Just having the station is not enough if the rancher is doing other things

yeah was learning that myself. had to set their ranching priority higher than other tasks so they'd do it whenever it was available.

Hatches drop 3200 kcal of meat which becomes 4000 kcal when made into Barbecue. A happy hatch reproduces at 17%/cycle, so that's 680 kcal/cycle/hatch. Dreckos also drop 3200 kcal of meat but only reproduce at 11%/cycle, so 440 kcal/cycle. Duplicants need 1000 kcal/cycle, so 1.47 hatches or 2.27 dreckos per dupe.

Without incubation it takes 20 cycles for an egg to hatch, so if the system has reached equilibrium you should have 3.4 queued eggs per hatch or 2.2 per drecko.

Verdante has the same issue; my mainstay here is Spicy Tofu (it's fairly water-intensive, but I got the subsurface ocean trait so that's not really an issue).
all you need is incubator, critter kill room and cracking all the eggs you dont need

apart from drecko ranches, I have only these

I incubate only pips and hatches

and crack all the eggs you dont need

mushrooms are good choice too

Not at all. Ranching hatches is amazing, if you have it setup right. How many critters in each ranch and how many Ranchers with 11+ skill do you have to support them? Grooming needs to be done as well as lullaby on the incubated eggs. With 3 stables of 8 hatches each, you should be swimming in BBQ. Somethings wrong if your starving.

There is one thing that I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet.

A tame hatch that is not groomed will not produce eggs. 7 full ranches of hatches generally takes a lot more dupes than I'm willing to devote them to. How many rancher do you have?

Typically one rancher can handle 1-2.5 ranches when full.
