Research deodorizers to get rid of the polluted o2, which will eventually kill off the slimelung. Deodorizors will reach up to-iirc-2 tiles away to cleanse polluted o2, and they are cheap.
If anything, it's safer to crawl through a swamp than through a caustic biome, as heat is more difficult to deal with than slimelung.
If you've never gone beyond cycle 10 you've BARELY gotten started.
Swamp biomes give LOADS of useful early game stuff. It's well worth having your dupes get slowed down a little bit by slimelung.
Swamp biomes can be pretty awesome early game because they have lots of useful stuff in them - tons of algae (which you're probably using to make oxygen), thimble reeds (to make clothes and paintings), fungal spores/mushrooms (efficient, decent food), pacu (which eventually you'll probably want a lot of), and slime itself (to grow the shrooms).
If you're new at this, I would expand into it slowly and carefully. Keep an eye on the germ overlay and try to avoid the biggest pockets if you can. Use deodorizers to clean the air and kill the germs. I recommend setting up a storage unit in a small puddle of water nearby where you're excavating. Put tiles to the left and right of the container, and put a bottle emptier next to it so you can put some water in it. Slime will normally create polluted oxygen, even when it's stored... but if the storage is in a puddle of water, you won't be leaking any polluted O2. You can plant the mushrooms you find in the CO2 sink that is no doubt forming at the bottom of your base, and the slime is all you need to keep mushrooms growing.
Ideally you'll eventually have atmo suits to get through the slime and germs, but you'll be fine as long as you keep deodorizers in the area, don't try to go too fast until you know what you're doing, and keep the slime stored where it doesn't fill your base with PO2.
1) Plant a deodorizer before even going in, and wait for the air to be clear (looking at the bacteria overlay) before going further and planting the next deodorizer.
2) Dig at least 1 block away from tiles that show slimelung on the overlay.
3) Setup a wash basin before your base entry point. I can't remember the name but there is also some kind of sanitizer thing. (although I have not yet used it)
4) If possible, do not bring anything you dig into your base yet. Instead put the stuff underwater outside, or better yet... setup a waterlock (you can google it for a video tutorial) to enter a chlorine biome and store all of your swamp pickups there. After it sits there for a while... it will become clean.
5) If you MUST dig through a slimelung infected tile, dig only a couple at a time and use everything you can to follow the earlier suggestions and disinfect yourself. Make sure to watch the overlay for any spread of bacteria and use manual disinfection (there's an icon at bottom right of your screen) to treat any objects that got infected.
6) Once you get enough fiber to make a suit and exit chamber... you are golden. Go in suited and wash/disinfect on re-entry... still leaving your loot in a Chlorine chamber for a while, then go back for it.
