Priorities 1 through 5
Does anybody use these, ever?

It seems default priority for basic things is 5, so if I want something done it gets assigned a 6+ priority.

Mining gets 6, building gets 7.

Common storage gets priority 6, important storage gets priority 7. Very important storage gets 9. Semi-very important storage gets 8 (like backup food supply).

Stuff that I want to be toggled immediately when requested is priority 9 (doors, valves etc).

VERY rarely, I use priority 1 just to get dupes to ignore something temporarily like my bottle emptiers when the liquid pool is overflowing...

I see practically zero use for priorities 1-5 generally speaking and it just makes me wish default priority was 2 or 3 so I could fine tune the "useful" priorities even more.

Sure, if something really doesn't need to be used right now. Farms, production you want queued but isn't essential, grooming stations for things you don't want groomed as a priority, etc. I use it quite a bit.

I see no difference in those kinds of jobs at default priority or lower. In either case they just do them when they feel like it.

i use 1-5 for sorting storage to boxes without adding to the urgent tasks. they will sot in the highest box first so having a main storage area at 5 and an overflow at 4 or lower. automation also gets within this priority range as its usually near my storage stuff

I set microbe mushers to priority four so that the chefs (Who have their personal priorities MASSIVELY set in favor of cooking) are perfectly willing to work at them but everyone else, not su much.

I use lower priorities as well, though I probably only need 2 or maybe 3, instead of 4.
Shipping systems are one place I use lower priorities,

Though tbf, I only use roughly 3 below and 3 above 5, so I could make due with only 7 lvls of priority, But that's probably just because I prefer to not mess with prioritiys on every set of things.

I sometimes use lower priorities, but since the default is 5, I don't use em much. If the default was 3, then i could use 1 or 2 for low priority, and have more scale for higher priorities.

I know that, if you change priority when creating a job, all future jobs are at that priority until a reload. I've had too many times i start playing the game with everything on priority 3 and it works great... then you come back the next day and design some stuff just to realize you mixed a bunch of priority 5 tasks in, and now it's just a big mess.

That seems to only apply to building. Everything else (mining, deconstruct, harvest, sweep, mop, etc) always defaults to 5.

Yeah this is a strange choice by them that brought it up last year but they seem to be sticking with it for some reason I don't understand. Why not start everything at 1?

I use priority 4 for tasks to do when not doing regular instructions. Things like work on a future expansion thats low priority or sweeping regions outside the base. Just avoid possible idle time.

Because then how would you make stuff low priority?
I do use several of the lower priorities, such as making tasks a four priority if I have people who have it as their job to do it, so they still do that four priority task over anything else. Then if I have a secondary job for the same people it goes onto a 3, they still do it but second to the 4 priority.
If you dont use lower priorities, well thats just the way YOU play, others might.

You still could if it was default 1 because you would select different priorities when you did things. So if everything started at 1 you would select higher if you want it to be faster. Guess it just depends on how the person looks at it; it's no big deal if you feel strongly about how it is set up now I'm fine with it.

I only use 5 and 9 for dupes and 1 for when I don't want them to steal the job of sweepers. Personnaly, I feel that 5 priorities instead of 9 and 3 by default should be enough but some people cried in the forums about it claiming it destroys everything....

If I really need something done I select my whole base on 1 and turn the thing I need to 9 since my dupes NEVER EVER EVER do the thing I need first if my base is all on 5
I use them to temporarily disable orders, so I dont have to repaint them.
