Polluted oxygen stuck in deodorizer
Very simple problem, I just cleared out an entire swamp biome to expand my base and used a lot of deodorizers to clear out the polluted oxygen. The deodorizers end up stuck with less than 100g (sometimes even just a few hundred mg) of polluted oxygen (I assume because it needs 100g in order to purify it).

I had this problem on a smaller scale before, but I just used gas vents to clear out the polluted oxygen after deconstructing the deodorizers. Doing this for an entire biome sounds very time and resource intensive so I was just wondering if there were any simpler ways I could go about clearing the polluted oxygen.

Very minimal and mostly harmless, just clear the deodorizers if the job is done.

Well they have slimelung germs, so I'd rather get rid of the polluted oxygen to permanently remove the slimelung from the area.

If it is a lot you can keep 1 deodorizer. If not it's going away soon due to mass deletion or simply dupes breathing it in.

I generally just delete the deodorizers, cast a wide "sanitize" across the area for remaining surface germs on anything, and wait for the tiny bits of slimelung to die off (or consolidate). ~Standard 4 tile high floors, with occasional mesh tiles as I strip-mine across and downward.

I don't open up these large strip-mine areas to the general non-suited population until 8-10 floors are clear of Slimelung.

So you're saying that if I were to delete my deodorizers, the slimelung on the small amounts of polluted oxygen would end up dying off and I don't need to worry about it?

The tiny specks of polluted oxygen contained in those won't have enough slimelung in them to present much of a danger of infecting any dupes, and once it's breathed in it's gone.

Yeah, I'm not much concerned with the small bits, but I have probably about 50 deodorizers so I imagine it'll add up, right?
gimmethegepgun Jun 23, 2020 @ 6:25pm
Not really. With that many you'll only have a few tiles of it maximum if you're at max normal pressure.
Also, if you don't destroy them all at once, the ones remaining will more than likely consume most of the released gases.

Okay thanks, one other thing though. I have them all in areas where the dupes only go to when wearing the atmo suit. If they don't breathe it in will the slimelung multiply or will it die off because of how little polluted oxygen there is?
gimmethegepgun Jun 23, 2020 @ 6:34pm
Unless it's an extremely small amount of polluted oxygen, it will increase up to a steady level depending on how much polluted oxygen there is. With very little polluted oxygen the cap for slimelung will be very low.
If it's an extremely small amount of polluted oxygen then it will just die off.

It's probably no more than 600g for every 'layer' of my base, would that be considered a small enough amount?

yeah in any case delete the deoderizers from the bottom up. any trapped gas should shoot to the top over time and maybe collect in one of the remaining deoderizers. whatevers left over shouldnt be a big deal.

Okay, sounds good. Thanks.

slimelung dies off in clean air over time anyways. Maybe just let the area sit for a while and you'll see the slimelung decrease. To speed things along you could introduce chlorine to the room to kill the germs.
The germs also die in cold temp. So pumping your oxygen into an ice biome might also work but usually the standard cleaning with air purifiers is really enough. Don't worry too much about slimelung. Just make sure your dupes don't get a motherload of it. They can handle smaller amounts just fine.

Yep, I already cleared out the area and didn't have any major problems, thanks!
