Fridge in CO2
If the food is stored in CO2 in a fridge, does the fridge have to be active / cooling to prevent the food from decay?

I would build a sterile/fridge room instead that you fill with CO2 and cool the entire room with radiator pipes that are cooled down by stuff like wheezeworts. This way you can store food in rationboxes instead. They fit way more food than a normal fridge and doesnt consume any power. Even stuff laying on the ground in the room is refridgerated and sterile and pretty much never rot or loose quality... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1560056573

You don't need to cool anything if it's in CO2. CO2 itself creates a sterile environment and prevents spoilage so the cooling does nothing to help.

Check how much space takes ration box and then check how many fridges you can put in same space. Then sum capacity of the fridges and compare with capacity of ration box.

But the fridge is 1X2 so it takes up the same amount of squares. Though I don't space would be an important issue, the perk would be that a ration box doesn't need power.

Niether do friges. Fridge can store food without power. If you put a fridge in CO2 food will not spoil. And if you are making such CO2 pit the space needed might be crucial when you want the food to be close to your mess/great hall, so dupes doesn't need to run longer then it is needed.
