The smart storage container is a joke.
For 60W, I do not even get the option to send a signal when low. Only when full. So automating a system where you "check" the status of the bin becomes a 10 tile filter/buffer/memorytoggle fiesta. Please for the love of god change it.

10 or 20W, with the option of "true when low" or "true when full"

Yes, nowadays when most storage has better automation options for free it makes sense to update this one as well.

I spent 9 hours of my life trying to get that to work. I'm done. I couldn't find any mods that fix it either. Pretty sure I'm done with ONI until it's changed.

Ehm, whatever you are trying to do with it you can accomplish, maybe with the smart storage, maybe without it. Seems very strange to quit playing because an insignificant part of the game didn't work like you expected.

im gonna stop playing because water sloshes too much! there are no moons to affect tides!

seriously, if there is a thing in the game you dont like how its implemented, quitting something you otherwise enjoy playing is a tad extreme. not to the dev, they dont care if one person quits playing over something minor. its more extreme on yourself. but making a "im quitting!" spectale about it on the forums changes zero minds.

im understand him. im also stopped playing but for another reason - dupe stupidity. simple building wall often leads to self block dupe and he dies, or dupe start running from point a to b without reason.

Well, that doesn't happen, so...?

I don't understand why the automated storage container, or even the automatic dispenser(?) even need power. The dispenser can be used without power. These buildings having to use power, while most others don't just doesn't make sense. Pretty sure even the fridge automation signal can still function even when it's powered off.

I used to think that all types of sensors that don't, should need power, but it really doesn't make sense; they are sensors for a reason. All, may be with the exception of germ and element sensors, logically act on pressure and heat, which happen automatically.

I think they meant that dupes tend to glitch their AI and start spazzing out, which happens to me quite a bit with rocket supplying. I even have duplicants deliver too much oxylite at times, resulting with excess just falling down and off-gassing. Sometimes they can't deliver that stuff back to storage right after, until I save and reload as well.

yeah dupe derping is frustrating at times.

Figuring out how to get them to do what you want despite their stupidity is much of the point of the game...

when i giving simple order "build room/wall inside of cavern" i dont want to figure anything: dupes in the left part of screen, ladders and blueprints of vertical wall in center of screen, nature space in right part of screen. its simple order, but dupes block themselves somehow in right part of screen. so, periodically simple task leads to loading.
frustrating.

I actually did end up getting it too work, it seems so obvious now but it's still a mess. I'll probably build it and do a video about it.

example a dupe gets stuck somewhere and you say no problem just build this ladder here to get out to safety no problem 20 seconds later they die while your screaming Red Alert Build the Fking Ladder! Only to realize you told them never to build or dig because you wanted them to only be researcher suppliers cooks or something else dumb.

That is why the only thing i forbid is farming i want my farmers farming and everyone else dont touch the crops. everything else do it as your able.
Yeah don't forbid any tasks. Set them to really low priority, sure, but don't forbid them.
Except art. Forbid art for anyone who isn't a master.

I also do research, since there is no risk of breakdown if the skill isn't performed, and potential skill development is finite, so you might as well focus the skill as much as possible.
Hedning Apr 14, 2020 @ 1:22am
Art and cooking you don't really have to forbid since dupes without the skill can't do it anyway, however I usually forbid it just to make the other tasks easier to see. Dupes won't "glitch" from having tasks forbidden. Yes, don't forbid construction or digging, because there's enough of these jobs to make everyone an expert and you do want everyone to build and dig eventually, but other job types are fine to forbid.
