Making Clothes - Why?
With the present build... does anyone bother making clothes... and if so... why?

Default dupe clothes provide a -5 decor in a small radius.

The improved clothes either help keep dupes warmer, cooler, or provide a +30 decor bonus.

Cloth reduce the chance of hypothermia and hyperthermia in hot cold places if u both build a fast airlock door and pwr it and restrict it to the dupes that got the gear for it.

Significant stress reduction.

apparently they fixed the disappearing clothers, and it wasn't that it didn't give you the buff, they were just invisible like the emperor's new clothes.

They just need a proper interface to put clothes on. Something like the food menu. It's such a pain in the butt trying to click on the clothing on the ground and select a dup to put it on then wait for them to take it.

It makes sense to make clothes simply because it's a one and done thing even if they're not that helpful. Even if all you do is make snazzy jumpsuits, that's less stress unless you've decorated the whole map.

I think it's questionable to make a reed industry though. You eventually get enough reed naturally from exploration to eventually clothe everyone. So I just make a clothing maker and make clothes when I can.

How do I assign clothing I have made? When I made my first clothes, they were on the ground, and I assigned them easily. But the rest I made were stored, and I can't seem to figure out how to get them on the rest of my dupes.

Gameplay wise they are next to useless unless you believe the game when it tells you hypothermia and stress are important things to resolve.

At the end of the day hypothermia is a stat reduction for a very short time with no long term issues, if you dups get it ignore it and it goes away.

As for stress the massage table is overpowered in it's ability to control stress, my dups rarely get over 20 once the table is setup ( set to 20 - 0 prio 9 ). On top of that decor in your main home / sleeping area can be so high that all stress is removed before they wake up. In all honesty my dups should be going crazy what with eating raw lice and working in areas full of heavy watt wire and horrible decor but they don't because stress is a non issue that the game would like you to think is important.

Massage tables are fantastic, but if you could avoid using them 100 times by making clothes once, then wouldn't you have to agree that the clothes are indeed useful?

Not really your dups tend to drop clothes randomly meaning you need to micro manage keeping them equipped, a single massage table can keep at least 16 dups stress free with a build it and forget it setup. also I tend to use all the cloth for exosuits and only farm it in the wild.

You could use clothes if you want to I have nothing against it but the game exaggerates the need for a lot of stuff that simply wasn't fleshed out completely, clothes are one of those things that seam to have be added as an after thought rather then a feature and not once reworked.

They need 2 more "sicknesses", colds (you get in cold enviornments), and heat rash (from hot areas). Right now, my dupes seem to have little or no negative results from hot or cold environments. If I knew they'd get a cold or heat rash for leaving them in negative enviornments for exctended periods, I might actually care.
