The bestest Drecko farm
Farming drecko scales efficiently! I've been trying different farm layouts, this is the best so far.
(Chlorine could be switched for a mealwood-friendly gas if getting glossy eggs matters)

Anybody want to post their designs? I'm curious how I can improve it.

Also, I notice a lot of farms have artwork in them. Is that ust for the dupes, or do animals care about decor?

I like that, but two comments anyway. Firstly, you can open the door if you prefer that, because the dreckos won't escape when there's water in the way. I like to keep the doors open to save the tenth of a second they take dupes to get through, which adds up, and because they flop debris up and down if there's any in the doorway, which I very much dislike for unknown reasons.
Secondly It can be useful to grow crops for them that you can actually use for food if the dreckos don't eat everything, either nuts or bristle blossoms. Lilies are particularly useless, because what you can make with them you barely need at all and can make more than enough of from the wild.

I would fit in a space heater for the regular dreckos if you want the ranch anywhere, or if the toxic biome cools down, which sometimes happens. It's a little clumsy and hard to automate inside, but a single wheezewort cools down the glossy drecko ranch enough. I just remove it when the two closest plants stop growing because of the cold. So this is how I do it.

PS: Well, lilies are free, which is definitely a selling point. It's just that I need them for absolutely nothing. I wish they were at least a little useful, even as drecko food. I tend to get enormous quantities of these if I grow them as drecko food, and it just bugs me that I can't use them for anything meaningful.

what i do with lilies in drecko ranch is just select don't harvest plant option so even if they don't eat you are not overflowing in lilies flower

Ha. I had left the door open, and I swear my first glossy escaped through the water. But I'll try again, I totally prefer open doors as well.

This is what I did. But even so, the Lilly Flowers are piling on the floor, so I get SKull's point.

Also, SKull, have you noticed if glossy dreckos have less chance to drop glossy eggs if they're fed bristle?

Maybe it's because my water locks are deeper. I hadn't tthought about that. And I think it's the same with bristle and mealwood, but not sure. Anyway, what I do is just ranch regular dreckos in the glossy drecko ranch until I get a glossy egg and then move all of them to the other ranch. Or to the wild if I don't bother with regular ones. It usually doesn't take very long.

Anyway, about the lilies, you can do an all hydrogen ranch if you grow nuts instead of lilies, which greatly boosts productivity, at least for the regular dreckos. So after much experimentation with drecko ranching that's what I've decided on. I still use the same basic layout though, but those pics are not exactly current. I should make some new ones...

This was my first drecko stable for plastic, copied from some forum post I saw. It worked okayish, but I didn't like it. Needs an exosuit dock, and it doesn't grow enough food for the scaly dudes.

my standard drecko stable i usually start it as soon as possible even well before i have ranching trained or researched. fill it with an electrolyzer then swap it out for algae in the early game. bringing in eggs and dropping them just to get it started. any extra mealwood gets fed to sage hatches. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1681136202 its not space saving but its easy and effective and can start generating plastic fairly early with luck. also doors on auto usually dont let critters out havent on mine anyway

I think they might have fixed the doors in the recent update. But I definitely remember dreckos escaping through doors and habitually getting themselves stuck in doorways one or two updates ago. I like the big, open thing you have cooking there. But don't the dreckos leave through the open door on the left? Or maybe it's just open momentarily because a dupe went through...
Anyway, this sort of thing is definitely a good way to go, since you can have an outer and inner ranch to get around the preposterously low drecko count you can have a in a max sized ranch.

yah they fixed it i remember them doing that to i think now it identifies the door on auto as not being a route even when its open now so they dont even calculate it unless the door is set to open

Useless to be honest. Each drecko needs 3 or 4 mealwood plants to not starve

as long as they eat once every 10 cycles they wont starve to death. if your breeding them for anything other then population and phosforite they dont need to be happy.

Yeah, I usually have one or two dreckos complaining about starvation, but I have of plenty dirt or water to feed them with.

More importantly, I reeeeally don't like the polymer press, it's obnoxious to manage. My single glossy drecko farm has built an entire tube-network, plus the food from eggs and old drecko meat.

I didn't think dreckos would crawl along open doors, that's fantastic! A good drecko farm should allow them to get to food easily, but have tons of surfaces to crawl that keep the cretins in hydrogen.

When I redo this farm I'll just line a ceiling with doors and let them scurry about.

This is not true and it's not useless. If you don;t know how to do it properly, stop giving advice to people.
