Duplicants no longer performing Engi's tune up.
I can't for the life of me figure out why they won't. I have plenty of dups with electrical engineering and operating as their highest priority. I also have all the electrical stations set at 9 priority. There are a few chips already made by each station but no one will apply them :steamsad:

Might be that you don't have more refined metal of the specified kind.

I too have stints where they dont tune up. I havent been able to pinpoint what priority has them put the tuneup in. Setting the station to 9 seems to only mean they MAKE the chips, but not actually do the tune up. Im curious if setting the generator to top priority means they will tune it up sooner? Honestly I just spread my power out over several sources to avoid the NEED of tune ups because of this scenario.

Would love to know if anyone can confirm. If the chips are already made, the amount of metal should be irrelevant.

Yeah, I made sure they have refined metal stocked. They already have chips made, so that shouldn't be a problem anyway.

My main power sources are petro and natural gas right now, they don't let you raise priority unfortunately.

An idea just struck me that maybe this is considered a "life support" task. I'm going to test that. I'll let you know if that works.

Someone here claims that it is the generator priority, which is an issue because you cant set certain generator priorities as you said (no citation to back it up though):

I was going to request this as well, but unknown for sure if this would have any effect:
"You can just set them to be manually disabled, change the priority and then cancel the disable request."

This seems the most likely to me:
"From my own experience you have to have an operator with high priorities in operation and supply. There's a supply errand that had to run the micro chip from the PCS to the generator and I've only been able to get dupes with the trait to run that errand."

I believe that is in fact the problem. I looked at one of my operator's task lists and tinker is way down at the bottom because generators that don't require supplying are always 5. Bit annoying.
Alrighty, I lowered all my operating tasks, besides oil wells, to 4 and then removed all tasks from one of my engineers except operating and supplying. That seems to do the trick.

I just have to monitor that this doesn't screw up my industry with everything set to 4.

Heh, fair enough. Doesnt really confirm if its the operating or supplying task, but seems to imply that supplying is the problem.

FWIW, there's a mod specifically for this:

I haven't tried it, so I can't say whether it's reliable or up-to-date.

That's strange, I really don't have that problem, actually I have to come up with automation tricks to prevent most of my engineers to perform tune ups 0.o

Tuneup is definitely tinkering. But those tasks tend to stack up at a certain point. At least for me. Before full automation, but after full map exploration when you need steel, oil, petroleum and plastic. Crushers, kilns, metal refineries, oil refineries etc. My mechanics get very busy between cycle 100 and 300.

I want to provide a potential solution:

The Power Control Station has an automation port, make sure its not connected to any cables or at least not connected to the cables that control your generators. Otherwise they'll run towards it and get cancelled all the time, wasting valueable time AND blocking the tinker action(it is an 'operating errand').

Not sure if the priority of the generator itself affects it at all, but you can pause the game, queue a deconstruct, set priority to 9 and then cancel the deconstruct to set a custom priority.

Edit: Make sure that ALL your Power Control Stations are not disabled by a cable, one seems to block all.
