Puft Ranch Question
Not wild. Has anyone managed to ranch these in captivity without debug mode ? I'm having trouble with polluted oxygen... i always run out of slime and im thinking perhaps my ratios are off. The end goal is farming slime from them for fun.

Better to raise Free or Captive?

I have always tried, since release, to make a puft farm, but it has never panned out. They just seem to stop making slime no mater what I do, or how much I create more poluted air I create, and the converter just seems to need SO much slime, that it's just not worth it. (not to mention slime lung problems with workers).

I've done it, it's useful. The lures dont capture pufts, only move them to their location.

i'd assume players who like to use Puft ranches use Morbs to provide the PO2, otherwise it's a huge waste of existing PO2 on the map.

Only the chlorine and oxylite ones. The best way is probably to build a ranch somewhere contained where there is already PO2, and then incubate an egg there to start off. With aurflow tiles above the ranch and deodorizers there it should work fine. The pufts will have dirty air in the ranch and the excess will be cleaned when it reaches the ceiling. You just need exosuits for the people working inside, or they'll probably get either stressed or sick.

To ranch pufts your options are:
1) Spawn morbs - they produce polluted oxygen. You need a lot of them and you need to keep gas pressure low enough for them to keep it producing. Expect huge game performance drop when having so many critters.
2) Polluted oxygen vent - it can give you some gas to feed pufts
3) Having an open tank with pwater will emit polluted oxygen as well.

I think the only viable way is the morbs or PO2 vent since I've tried the open tank and you'd need a lot of space just to get them to pump out barely enough for a couple of puffs.

Puffs also only generate a small amount of slime per critter so you'll need a lot of them if you are using a lot of slime. My current puff farm can't even keep 1/10th of my mushrooms fertilize fully (4 puffs and a ton of morbs).

The biggest deal with Puft ranching, and most ranching now, is to sweep (tidy/storage priority) eggs around to storage containers but emptying them out immediately(works with slicksters, shine bugs, fish, anything with eggs), because they will rot if left in the containers. Paying close attention to this while its happening is very important. lures and traps are a pain.

You want to keep a puft, puft prince, and dense puft together. They will produce more dense pufts that way and dense pufts are easy to keep.

A small pool of polluted water just below their pins also compost bins or outhouses in their pins can keep the pufts from starving. finding a polluted oxygen geyser can help a lot or sweeping slime and polluted dirt into their pins is also an option...
