Recommended Wheezewort setup
Hi,

TLDR; How far apart should you place your Wheezeworts from one another?

I've only just started playing around with Wheezeworts. I've done a bunch of searching so I do understand that they're not really anything great.

That being said, I'm just fooling around a bit in a little chlorine room I've set up which is naturally hot since I dug it out.

I'm still very early game so I don't yet have anything in the way of cooling, etc but I did manage to get 2 Wheezewort seeds.

My question is, what's the best placement or doesn't it matter? I'm not sure if I should place them right next to each other or 1 tile apart or 2 or what.

Any advice would be appreciated.

the one thing to keep in mind, they pull in gas from their bottom layer and spew it out of the top of it. so if you wanted to get fancy you'd simply need to set up gas vents near the base of them, plant them at the higher points of your base, and they will keep things cooled down (since heat rises and cold falls) its not the end all beat all cooling method but its an efficient way to use em.

otherwise jsut having a room setup with a bunch of them in some thick hydrogen gas makes for a decent way to cool other gasses run through that room in gas pipes.

Thanks guys and what about the spacing between them?

So must I keep the block above them open for this? Trying to understand how much space around them needs to be available.

i myself do a 3 block high room for them, but as long as no portion of the is buried they will function proper. from there its just spacing and airflow design and temp shift plates.

You are best off sticking them in an enclosed room of hydrogen and use radiant vents to pump your oxygen past them to cool it.
Because Hydrogen has a better thermal conductivity & the Wheezeworts remove 5c regardless of thermal conductivity, The oxygen in the pipes will cool by more than 5c to heat the hydrogen the same 5c, thus deleting more heat.

TL;DR
80c oxygen running through a room of hydrogen & 4 wheezeworts will cool to around 35c

It is not about conductivity but specific heat capacity.

Clearly I'm no expert, i just saw the advice of place them anywhere and had to say something that was vaguely correct.

As far as I know it doesn't matter just stick them in places that look nice and your dupes can reach.

The 'Best' Placement is in an actual cooling system...
Not just where they look nice...

In my mind wheeze worts are the quick and lazy way to get cooling. You just slap them down wherever you want the immediate surroundings to get a little colder. Putting in effort into squeezing more cooling out of them is the wrong way to use them imo.

Yes, it is important where you put wheezeworts if you want to maximize their cooling power.
It should be placed in at least 2kg of Hydrogen.

1 Wheezewort in a Hydrogen environment will cool oxygen 12c

1 Wheezewort in a Oxygen environment will cool oxygen 5c

It's not a little cooling, its over double...

And @Storm if you can pump your chlorine out, through a hydrogen room
(only has to be 3 tiles enough to fit the wheezewort)

1 Wheezewort in a Hydrogen environment will cool Chlorine 24c

1 Wheezewort in a Chlorine environment will cool Chlorine 5c

Your cooling will be almost x5

ah, thanks for all the good info guys, really appreciate it. Much to work with.

I ended up placing 1 Wheezewort right next to a Natural Gas power turbine and added 6 gold therma something plates. It looks like it is at least keeping the machine cold enough to run.

I'm still very n00b and I'm still very much digging out an area where I can make my power as well as another area where I'll build my cooling. So this is just a cheap and nasty early game cooling just to keep the base at some kind of manageable temp.
