I filled a chamber with Rock gas @ +3000c
- 2 insulated Obsidian tiles side by side did indeed transfer noticeable heat(before the outer one melted entirely)
- 2 insulated Ceramic tiles transferred 0.1c over the same period of time!
So I think i'll only need a single layer of insulated Ceramic for anything i'll need.. which would be temperatures between, say, +-800c
i'll probably still want space materials for better pipe insulation though..
You can also try the test with a hot liquid instead of gas. I read that liquids interact with tiles at much lower rate than gases.
As for pipes - just place them in a vacuum tunel. Then material they are made of will be irrelevant :-)
One thing I noticed.. Magma liquid at the bottom of the map doesn't seem to transfer heat to insulated tiles at all!
You need to fly out into space and find isoresin, takes sending research modules first to find it, then you can send cargobay to collect it. Then you can craft the ultimate insulator with abyssalite!
Note for guy asking original question:
the recipe will pop up in the molecular forge after you find some isoresin and retrieve it...
