I think both games are great. I only play ONI and i Love it.
Different games, both are worthwhile. If you are more into micromanagement and colony sims, ONI, if you are into building massive factories to avoid micromanagement, Factorio. ONI is much more like a PA than Factorio.

Steam has me at several hundred hours in the game. Even with the amount of time I've invested in this game and thus got my monies worth I caution anyone interested in buying. At least at this time.

There is a lot of fun to be had at this game but it is a nitch audience. Also the tutorial/in game help and general learning curve is rough. Unless you were willing to work past a harder learning curve then most games you will probably be better off waiting for a tutorial being added to the game (the current one is pretty bare bones yet it is more then nothing). The developers have added a lot of content since the release of EA but haven't backed it up with advance or in depth how to's.

The development cycle is coming close to release from EA. The updates moving forward are going to fix balance, missing content and general polish. I feel like new users should only jump in now if they want to give themselves extra time to learn the content before release.

I fell like it would be better experience for most to just wait a little longer till release or right before release and then buy the game. Unless the player is really interested in the game and needs something fresh to play.

I suggest you watch a Youtube tutorial series to show you how the game is played, and if it looks like something you'd like to suffer through (and I mean the game is all about handling stress and other annoying things like eating and breathing, which aren't always as easy as we'd like them to be), then get it. It is a hard game, but it feels worth it.

The only problem with Youtube series on this game is that it is in Early Access and the UI or available tech might be different in earlier videos than they are today or will be tomorrow, so you've got to keep that in mind. So a series from at least 2018 is recommended.

I learned a lot from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NESiBPGtZQ
that's a typical start to the game, and if that looks like something you might be interested in, continue to the next video and so on. It's very good to start informed in this game. But it's also good to learn from your mistakes and get a little better each time.

Hard to choose, I like all these games.

ONI and Factorio are both excellent games. I've been switching back and forth between the two for quite some time. I recommend you get them both lol. If you can only afford one, I'd say watch some let's plays and see which seems more fun.

I will say that in terms of challenge, ONI is probably more difficult to master. Your colony can totally collapse, run out of air/water, burn up, or die from slimelung if you plan poorly. I've never made it to what most would consider the late-mid game. Whereas with Factorio you can always start rebuilding in new areas of the map (as long as you haven't totally screwed yourself with base defense and get overwhelmed by biters).

Both games challenge your organizational and planning skills, and you learn every time you start over. It will always suck to lose all you progress when you realize your fatal mistakes and consider restarting, but out of all the games I've ever played these two always feel great to get a fresh start on.

I play and really love the two games.
But i think Factorio is more complete for the moment. I have a lot of way to play Factorio, and with mods, multiplayer, etc...
ONI is great, but i think he still missing something for the moment, like an other game mode ( something defensive against an IA colony would be awesome)

Factorio and ONI are games where you always search optimisation. But ONI don't really let you the time to search or think. ONI is more about surviving. Oni is more difficult and its pretty hard to be a master on that game.

A complet tutorial is really needed.

I would not say Oni doesn't let you time to search or think. You can always pause the game and search and think...

if you like the style of game, the development is so much better than prison architect was.

I love ONI, I like Factorio, and I despise Prison Architect (mind-numbingly slow and stupid IMO; didn't even last an hour).

Both, plus a few extra copies of Factorio to give to friends to play multiplayer.

If you like hardcore management and planning, OnI is for you.
Ive logged 140 hours into this game in a couple of weeks and I still need to get succesfully through mid game as I refuse to just learn how to do everything from videos or guides that will tell me the exact optimum method to do this specific thing.
Like, I just now learned that if you place your farms at the bottom, you better have a floor below, since all the Co2 your duplicants exhale are 37 degrees celsius and will slowly but surely and constantly overheat your main source of crops.
Hydrogen will float on top of everything and Co2 will fall below everything and the rest will take their respective places in between, so you have to always think about how youre gonna do something and thats by using real world physics, not just some invented game logic in most cases.
