You can go into the germs tab and raise the number of germs that have to present to trip the Dupes "go clean that" trigger.
The default is 10000. I change it to 20000 off the rip to cut the amount of time they spend disinfecting toilets in half, but I have set it much higher without issue once I have wash basins and sinks enough to handle keeping the Dupes from tracking germs everywhere else.
If you have walls that are built up against slime lung, you can also mine the slime next to the wall so it's an air gap to prevent the germs from seeping into the walls so they need to be cleaned.
Cheers..!

Generally speaking, my guidance is "don't dig into the Slimelung areas until you've got early food (pickled meal and maybe frost buns), early power*, ice being carried into your clean water supply to replenish it (500kg containers IN the water), and hand sanitizers/sinks/showers at the ready.
* - (re: "early power", I mean coal-backed-hydrogen power, with a 3x oxydizer closed-in hydrogen "farm" for near-self-sustainability, coal kicks in below 20, wheezies and 1 HVAC in-chamber. All power generators on a HW bus outside the base, all batteries outside on that bus, and transformers feeding small wires into the base)
In the last 3 maps, I haven't had to mine more than a few slime tiles to access Wheezies. Just use the germ overlay to plot your course, intentionally going through Chlorine along your route to to cold biomes (which you'll spot using thermal overlay).
First couple of Slime trips are straight-shot tunnels directly to the sides of the map, to the heart of the darkest areas, just to find where the damnable NG geysers are hidden. (Premature meteors have advised against tunneling UP in the early game.) When plotting the straight-shot into the slime, I mine a full tile gap ABOVE where my 2-high tunnel ceiling will be (i.e., dig 4-high, keep 2), build the entire tunnel ceiling, and then repeat 2 tiles downward for the floor and a 1-tile gap below that. MOST of the slimeballs will thus fall BELOW where I build the floor, and most floor tiles will no longer need disinfecting. All slime goes to one storage compactor with bleach stone, in a chlorine room with a sealed door at the top. WARNING: Dupes are kinda stupid, and will encase their faces inside of floor tiles using this method -- so just watch them as they build. But net-net, you have a completely enclosed tunnel crossing the entire map, which you can use to bring back gas, liquids, and later use for transport.
Evidence: On my two tunnels through Slimeland last night, edge-to-edge, I ended up with ZERO surfaces getting residual infections requiring decontamination. At this point, I have almost no use for going into the Slime, since I picked up enough gold for my high-temp machines while making the enclosed+air-gapped tunnels.
When you're ready to really tear into the Slime later, you'll simply suit up and annihilate it rows at a time, with the product balling up at the bottom of the mass excavation. Bulk storage in chlorine, and you're all set.
Hope that helps!
