why are signal switches even a thing?
you can use literally any other switch and operate it yourself the second you want to, I can't think of any reason to use one that a dupe has to toggle.

It leaves the power grid on controlling only connected buildings
Can be used to activate buildings in an environment that is closed off.
It can control multiple buildings.
Yes you can accomplish the same results with power wires and switches, but the signal switch can simplify it.

so why not just use literally any other automation switch/sensor and not need a dupe to toggle it?

The lever thing? it was in the game before the Automation update I think.. so before the update it was the only option, after the update it's obsolete imo.

The signal switches are for use before you manage to make refined metal, you won't be making that stuff early on unless you are rushing forward

they require refined metal though... and even if they didn't the automation wires do.
