Yet another "Why aren't these pips planting?" post
I've planted many lines of plants with pips. Something occasionally happens that I have to trouble-shoot. In this case, I'm stumped. Can anyone see what's happening? There are 80+ waterweed seeds sitting on the ground in front of the storage bin (which has no filters).

Was going to link to the official forum post on this but looking at it I can see you aren't breaking the planting rules so its going to have to go to exotic reasons.

1. They might just have a command queue hiccup. Try saving and loading.

2. You are deep cycle. Do you have so much going on your computer can't keep up and its sacrificing critter commands? Yes, this can happen.

This seems extremely likely. My computer is slowing down, and I'm getting some sort of memory leak with ONI that I can watch increase. I wonder if there's any way to fix it.
I already saved and loaded (multiple times) and it hasn't fixed.
Any suggestions on how to help critters make it through the immense noise?

Some people have said they have gotten critters to catch up for a bit by pausing and letting it sit for a while. Its a very temporary solution though.

This is what I have done. Takes a while and is annoying but it does the job.

I tried that, but maybe I needed to pause longer?? How long do you pause to get these cat-squirrels planting?
I also tried running at 1x speed for a half hour or so. No success.

Waterweed needs saltwater/brine on top of it for pips to plant.

I honestly don't think this is the case. Salt water is needed in order for waterweed to grow, but the pips will plant it even without salt water.
One way or another, that's certainly not my problem, as I removed the salt water only recently to ensure that the pips weren't getting scared off by too much water (which they won't cross).

Just put it to the test. Got some salt water there, and waited a bunch of cycles. No dice. The Pips won't plant a thing.

Pips for me have never planted seeds that are "moved" to a location. Waterweeds naturally drop quite well. If the salt biome dug in a zig zag pattern, it is quite easy to drip salt water all the way down. Pips (4 or 5) plant like crazy and don't mind the salt water. But, sometimes for no reason Pips won't plant a "room"

Also, I keep my pips in nature reserves with trees so they all well fed. Just move them for "work". I have an older pc and just did this a few hours ago at cycle 665

From looking at your setup, my guess they prefer "ground" rather than a farm tile. I use pips for lettuce farms, but no farm tiles
SquarelyCircle Oct 30, 2019 @ 3:39pm
Those aren't farm tiles. Every one of those tiles is some sort of ore tile. The pips have placed over 100 waterweed seeds into similar tiles above and to the right of this one.
My pips are wild and not being well-fed. However, several generations of pips over hundreds of cycles have been used to plant hundreds of these waterweed seeds. Why would they suddenly stop here and do nothing for hundreds of cycles?

I don't know, but I can see there are buried objects there. Maybe if they are plants they can interfere.

Another guess is if pips are hungry or otherwise glum or maybe elderly pips won't plant or plant less often. Try adding in a bunch more pips.

It is 4 tiles high, though.
