What are the best tiles to use?
Like plastic or metal. For ladders plastic or tubes etc. Also whats the best mat to make tiles from? Wondering if theres a tile mat that gives a flat decor bonus instead of a few %

buildings including tiles have a base decor - regular tiles have 5 which means they give from 5 to 6 based on material. airflow and mesh tiles have negative but copper and gold help very slightly.
I use sandstone for regular tiles, ignous rock for isolation tiles, obsydian is good for holding liquids cause of its toughness. i leave sedimentary rock for normal pipes and granite for decor, spamming paintings and statues around

if i remember correctly, plastic and metal tiles have much more decor power

Plastic and Metal tiles give a higher runspeed bonus than other tiles.
Plastic ladders have higher movement speed.
Wolframite doesn't give a overheat bonus like Gold Amalgam but has the highest thermal conductivity of all raw metals.
Tungsten is the strongest refined metal and has high thermal conductivity.
Gold, Granite, Ceramic and Diamond have the highest decor bonus.

It depends on what you're using them for really. Dupes will enjoy a golden shower but a copper one will do just fine.

each kind of tile has their own purpose:
  • normal tiles simply provide a surface without gases and liquids assing. as they are made out of minerals they wont transfer heat easily.
  • insulated tiles are the same as normal tiles but provide better insulation values making this your main tiles for heat sensitive areas such as farms
  • air flow and mesh tiles are made of metals therefor transfer heat easily and let light, decor, gases and liquids (mesh tile) pass
  • metal tiles are normal tiles made of refined metals. this means nothing passes but heat can transfer easily
  • plastic tiles cant carry germs but arent very heat resistent and can melt at comparably low temperatures
  • Window tiles can let decor and light pass
  • bunker tiles are very forceresistent and the only tiles (besides neutronium maybe) that cant be destroyed by meteorites.

for materials it depends on the use. sandstone and granite are best for areas that require as much decor as possible. sandstone is a fairly brittle material though and is not the material of choice for larger water tanks.
for heat sensitive areas abyssalite and ceramic are your go-to options.

for cooling you want to use metal tiles where you want the heat/cold to pass through. radiant pipes are the equivalent of metal tiles.

in theory plastic tiles dont have much use as there should be large amount of germs inside your base at all. if there is thats the place you could need them.

bunker tiles are placed on the op of the map.

class is used for everywhere you use light. In example you can build lamps outside a bristle blossom farm and therefore increase the effective size of the farm.

for machines its mainly about wether or not its running in a hot enviroment. if a machine is at risk of overheating you build it out of gold amalgam.
