I've got other things in my bases that I'd like to put my attention to. The farms just pull plants when ripe but don't pull seeds. Aside from sleet wheat we don't have seeds that get put into food. I'd like to have something made specifically (maybe add a feature to the grooming station) to keep a ranch specialized. I don't need stone hatches in my smooth hatch pen. I don't need them breeding out of hand. I'd like the gulp fish (Of which my pen has had up to 26) to be killed off to a certain number without having to micro manage that spot.
The ranches just seem to require a lot more attention than farms.

The only issue is refilling your room does have to be done by hand. There are some exploits involving half-wild hatches that enter a stable via open doors, but that'll probbaly get patched out soon. Of course, they will probably add creature automation in next update anyways, so meh.
If you really, like, you can use weight sensors and throttle smart storage for eggs or something to aumated that too. But that would be too much hassle.
