Generators outside Power Plant rooms

Can generators outside a power plant be given microchips from a Power Control Station? And if so, will they still get the 50% bonus? Or do I need a Power Control Station in EVERY single room where I have power generation? That would be incredibly annoying since the max size restriction is 96 tiles.

this one i havnt tested myself. from what i've read i THINK they can. but on my current file where i've found using one to be useful, i only got the 4 hydrogen generators and 2 coal.

Unless you are going to actually use those 20kW i'd say it will be easier to drop number of generators to something more realistic. What you are building will require 4 oil refineries and 40kg/s of oil to work continiously, might be a bit unrealistic...
Sure if it is all automated extra generators would not hurt... except you will be wasting time/metals on unneeded tune-ups.
IIRC you can pack 5 generators + station into powerplant room just fine, and that will probably be enough. Might build 5 extra generators without station with separate automation as backup if you really need that much power.
But IMO if you really need that much power you should look into oil boiler or at least heat-based oil-petrolium conversion first...

well i see the bonus 50% power, as a 33% reduction in fuel cost to charge your batteries later on (my math could be wrong its been a long day.) so its not necessarily about the total output, but being able to turn refined metal into fuel which if you have in abundance, isnt a bad idea for any of your generators your actively using.

Well, I am on Rime, and having tepidizers around to fuel for a while will be needed. And of course, if later in the game I want to run jukeboxes and video game machines for duplicants, that extra wattage would come in handy. I am never enough with just 1.6kw to 2.4kw that I have right now. It barely gets things done where I want. 20kw may be overkill at the moment, but it is the calculus here. I actually need only TWO oil refineries, because each would give out 5kg of petroleum per second, while outputting 90g/s of natural gas.

Natual gas aligns nicely with the two natural gas generators, but the petroleum, once I have enough plastic I don't know what to do with, I will have no petroleum sink and it will just keep piling up. So, since 5kg do not divide well into to 2kg, I would have 2 oil refineries running, producing 10kg of petroleum, so I can then run exactly 5 petroleum generators! I realise now that it would fuel 5 and not 10 petroleum generators, my bad. But that is good! 10kw - 15kw I can live with, comfortably! That just means I will have more space for trasnformers and power stations!

The point is - if you want to use tune-up you should estimate how much power you will actually need and only tune-up enough generators to produce that power. With reasonable reserve of course. If you only need 5 gens but tune up 10 you are wasting a bunch of time and some metal for no reason. There is nothing bad in having more generators than you can run for 100% of the time as it provides nice backup for a case of consumption spikes (rec rooms are a good example), just do not tune up the second part and set them to start only when battery level is like 5% or something.
Also refineries require dupe operation, which means they inevitably will have less than 100% uptime.
And you should be careful about where you are expecting to take oil from. It will run out surprisingly fast at such rate, and you will require 3 oil wells per refinery (+3kg/s of water) to run it then.

Conveniently, where I am planning to build the petroleum generator + nat gas generator + plastic construction room is where I have a crude oil geiser nearby! So even if I deplete, this geiser will keep things rolling in the long run! Problem will be cooling down the 350C oil that it spills out. But with steam generators killing off heat in one way or another, I should be good! For now I just need a bit of plastic for those same steam generators more than anything really. And of course better beds!
