alternative to thermium?
Hello, im not that far into my current playthrough yet but i noticed i dont have any tungsten on my asteroid. is there an alternative to tungsten / thermium?

You don't get tungsten on asteroids; you (hopefully) get wolframite, which is refined to tungsten. If you don't have any wolframite, you can get it from space missions (glimmering planet).

In theory you can make tungsten by melting abyssalite or insulation, but their melting points are 3422°C and 3622°C respectively. I don't know whether its feasible (or even possible) to do this outside of debug mode in the current version.

ok but i dont have a glimmering planet, any other alternative or workaround?

You can use niobium directly, it is not as good but still much better than steel. Other than that... bad luck (or i'd say bad design, and they will probably fix it at some point).

will it work to cool supercoolant ? the difference in max temp is significant.
Im kinda tempted to start over just for the fact of no wolframite but i also dont want to restart.

If you melt insulation it turns into tungsten. Good luck.

no ice biome?
there should be wolframite

no geodes, no glacier, no ice biome, no planet. its verdante

What do you mean by "cool supercoolant"? Anything will work for this as long as you keep it below overheat temp. Typical steam turbine combo will work with steel with huge margins.

Niobium will even work for boiling oil into natgas, TBH if you think about it - what actual uses does thermium have that you actually want, apart from may be its extreme thermal conductivity?

Technically Thermium is vastly superior to Niobium in crafting *(obviously in heat temp, but i mean for crafting) Once you get enough Niobium to craft thermium, you can crush thermium to more niobium, and make more thermium.
1 trip and you ahve all the thermium you need, I shudder at the thought of having to gather niobium by small batches from a non gas giant T_T

@OP I'm starting to get to that same problem *(On Verdante, going for every achievement on a single colony, and 4 leaky oil vissures, 5 oil reserves, and cant use any dirty power yet T_T; I'm praying for a glimmering asteroid SOMEWHERE, even if its like 70k+ away, I'll take it)
