command capsule "missing atmo suit?"

Does it just take a while to register it, or am I doing something wrong?

I assigned an astronaut with the required skill to the capsule, at first she never went in because I think the game is too stupid to check for atmosuit at the docks, I had to manually put a suit on the floor and then tell her to equip it. Then she went in the command capsule after putting it on, but then the command capsule said atmo suit missing. I threw my hands up in the air, ejected her from it, this time I just put an atmo suit on the ground, did not tell her to explicitly equip it, she figures out to put it on and go inside the command capsule for a second time, still get atmo suit missing. About a minute later no atmo suit missing warning, even though I did nothing.

I'm not understanding something here - what is the "proper" method to get the capsule to register an atmosuit is inside without all the fuss?

Check if there's another path for dupes to go back into your base, while keeping their atmo suits permanently on.
