Food Poisoning in water.
So I have two options for water production. A cool steam vent close to a nullifier. Which I have used in a previous map. I also have a cool slush vent. I decided to use the cool slush vent this time. I started removing the pollution, only to notice its full of food poisioning. I know previously, you could use this water without problems for everything but algea. Is this still true? Is their an easy way to get rid of these germs without heating the water?

It seems silly to heat this water up to kill the germs. I would just have to cool it before using it, which means I could have just used the cool stem vent instead.

AFAIK food poisoned water only can hurt you if you cook with it (and probably if the ingredients involve plants that use germed water like say, bristleweed).

Seeing as you can use quite a variety of food recipes that don't involve water anywhere in the ingredient list, you should be fine.

Currently I'm at cycle 200 and my main water reservoir has 300,000 food poison germs in it but I don't remember the last time I got food poisoning at all, as I only cook mushrooms that don't require water.

Germy water is only harmful if used to cook, like with mush bars. It is perfectly fine to do anything else with it, use for research, use for irrigation, use for cooling/heating loops, oxylizer, literally anything except food prep. And if you're using food that uses water, don't, find a new food source, even raw meal lice is better. And growing the mealwood with germy water does not produce germy meal lice.

Well then this is where my problem would be. All of my food comes from hydro bristle berry farms. So converting now would be...problematic to say the least. I looked through a lot of those recipes and I don't see much that I could easily convert to except for mealwood. I have a ton of cold biomes. And I have a paths to all of the sleet wheat with harvest set to priority 7 or 8. But even when cooking that its not nearly enough to feed my whole colony because of the long wild grow times. Is their something I'm missing?

Grill berries and you will be fine. Grilling kills germs.

If you're on bristle berries then my advice of mealwood is in your rearview, you're later game than I thought. Sorry. As Angpaur says cook your food. It's better for morale and the kcals go further anyway. Biggest mistake I see (in my opinion) is taking too many dupes before you can afford them food and oxygen wise, how many dupes do you have that you need so much food?

I have 14 dupes. I am 160 cycles in (I tend to take things slow) I just tend to get nervous when they drop below 30k of food reserves. I do already cook my food. I have a dedicated cook for that. I just have not been this far yet, and I did not want to send germy water through my base without knowing what it would do.

By the way. I do realize that I messed. I could have put the polluted water in the cold biome to kill the food poisoning without breaking my pipes, but its far to late for that.

14 at 160 shouldn't really be an issue, just add some more farming. FWIW, I just took on my 14th dupe at cycle 240 but I'm very stingy when taking them. Last 2 were just too good to refuse (they'll make great astronauts some day) or I'd have stuck at 12 much longer.
