Did I setup the automated farming correctly?[Pics included]
Hello there fellow duplicants, I require some help to see if I have setup an automated farming correctly.

I bought the game not too long ago and I got to say I got myself hooked playing it. I have finally survive to the point where I can touch automated technology. My experience in setting up automated stuff so far is only by hooking up the smart battery to the coal generator and I have yet to do anything else that's grand. Hence, the next order of business is a stable source of food.

I have attempt to make an automated farming on trial and error basis, and I think I have work out a finalize plan.

My first attempt.

My finalize plan.

The storage bin contains dirt and the conveyor is taking the meal lice to the fridge on the top right. So will the auto sweeper harvest the crops when it is ready or must i unlock the door to the farm and let the duplicants harvest the crop when it is ready?

Autosweepers can't harvest. But a crop will autoharvest after 4 cycles from being ready to harvest and it will drop, so autosweepers can pick it up. You just need to find a way now how to stop providing dirt for 4 cycles and wait untill crops drop. Or you just let dupes harvest if you don't want this to be fully automatic.

Autosweepers won't harvest the food right off the plant but all plants will drop their food 4 days after ripening so you could always wait for that to happen. The autosweeper will take the food once harvest though so dupe won't have to do any delivering.

BTW if you make your farm 4 tiles high you can put the receptable sideways and under the loader so you can put more plant underneath them.

Like so:

After 4 cycles? Thanks!! I will make my farm 4 tiles high if I manage to survive long enough to do the changes. If not, there's always the next playthrough

you dont have to make a farm 4 tiles high all you gotta look out for is that the slots for the in- and outboxes are reachable by the sweepers.

Oh man... I havent really got to use sweepers yet, and I had never thought about making an automated farm. I am excited to try now.

Will sweepers harvest, or only pick up the remains? IE - do dupes have to be involved at all, or do they still have to harvest?

Yea except you'll probably want both a receptacle and a loader to be accessible to 2 autosweepers and seeing as how most plants are 2 tiles high you'll probably need a 4 tile height somewhere in that farm. Best way is to have 1 part 4 tile high for the receptacle and loader and the rest 3 tiles if you are trying to stretch a farm room or something.

Ahh yea, I got excited looking at the pictures. I usually get fiery at people for not reading the posts in full. My bad.

You can automatise the supplying of dirt !
Also I don't understand why you don't make your lower floor more accessible.
(i guess you don't want dupes to harvest...)
I would advise against Big wires (decor) (doesn't matter if you don't harvest)
Also you can add automated light for faster dupe harvest (same)
If you don't have dupe access there then you don't need a farming station. Also the station ain't that usefull for Lime imho

The lower floor is a setup for dusk caps and the description from the farming station says that it will give a boost to production for dusk caps, so I put one there to test things out. I'm planning to make the dusk caps farm setup area to be the same as my mealwood farm and I'm not sure if I need to setup automation for the farming station too - cause I have not use it before. But from the looks of it I can maybe squeeze out 4-5 more farm tile if I have made my farm 4 tiles high instead of 3. So my current automated farm setup is workable but it is not optimal.

As for the big wire -which causes problem for decor - and the automated light -something I have not used before - I will do something about it on my next playthrough as my base infrastructure is more or less fixed - without making drastic changes to the base as a whole. And your picture have inspire me on how to setup a proper power grid/ power production area.

Anyway, I'm planning to do the same for bristle blossom but I have yet to secure a stable source of clean water, besides my main water reserves, from the slime biome. I'm currently figuring out on how to deal with slime lung so that I can get my dusk caps farm up and running, along with another source of water.

Basically just spam deodorizers and make sure your food isn't too far from your dining tables, or you risk a dupe getting caught in a loop where they cough, drop their food, and go back to retrieve it down a ladder.

Do that, and slimelung won't be a serious concern. Well, also store your slime in a container with some water on it.

This is silly hahaha.

Will it kill off the slimelung if I store it in container in germy water? Or it must the container be in clean water? I have not tried this before. My current approach to dealing the slimelung is that the dupe must go through a room full of chlorine, containers to dump any materials in the slime biome, and some hand sanitizer at the exit point and entry point to the slime biome.

If you want to outright kill the slimelung you need to store it in chlorine. However, as long as your air is kept clean, the tiny bit of slimelung air released from dupes carrying bits of slime to the mushrooms is very unlikely to infect a dupe.

Storing it under water-polluted water will actually work here-will keep the slime from offgassing and shrinking away, thus allowing you to actually store the slime over the long run.
