How much of a Geiser must be exposed to be able to analyze it?
I have a CO2 Geiser and I exposed a tiny bit of it so that I could click it and set it to Analyze, but my scientist isn't doing it.

I assume that I must expose more of it (so that it actually goes active) but I am a little worried of the possible temperatures as I don't yet have exosuits. Must I expose it fully and let it go active before I can analyze it?

I think you have to at least expose the part that releases whatever it's designed to release to study it, so no, you can't cheese this part unfortunately.

i.e. They have to be able to stand in the center at it's base.

So, must wait for exosuit, then uncover it, right?

Or wait for it to go dormant, which will give you several weeks to study it.

CO2 is cold (which is good), and it releases a very small amount, so you should be OK.

Are you sure? I have a 500C CO2 vent.

you definitely don't (unless you have a mod for that)

I definitely do, vanilla. It's on Arborea.

Here it is. I don't play with mods at the moment.

You have the hot gassy one.

Flux probably means the cold liquidy volcano one.

Luckily my slicksters don't mind it at any temperature. Makes them easier to keep as well.

Geyser means cold. Vent means hot.

95C isn't cold in my mind. I have a water geyser that is 95C.

Anyways, in my mind they are the same thing really.

Lol. So much controversy. I apologize for starting this fight.

But I might be able to help clarify the hot VS cold issue. During my research I read that apparently both are possible, from cold to quite hot. Also, it seems that they all have very low volume.

My hope is to have gotten lucky and discover a cold version, so that I can use it to help cool a quad coal generator / co2 scrubber setup like the one in this thread (https :/steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1362621368) plus supplement the O2 generation portion. I used a modified version of it before and I love it.

But I don't want to risk the chance of Co2 spewing into the containment chamber at temperatures that my dupes can't handle without an exosuit, and I can't tell when it goes dormant without exposing more of it first, right?

I managed to analyze two (one cool steam vent and one nat gas geyser) by manually setting the prio and wanting it's cycles.

When it was building preassure, i set prio to 1 and cancel analyze. after it's cycle, i set prio to 9 and start analyze.

got no suits yet.

Nice. I think what you did is possible if you rush to do that as soon as you discover it. But I might have waited too long, unless I can tell its cycle without letting it start spewing. For example I have a steam vent nearby that has air around 60-80C. I doubt I could analyze without cooking my dupes even if I waited for a dormant period.

Which brings me back to a variant of the original question. How much of the geiser can I expose without it starting to produce? A partially exposed geiser that does not produce yet might let me observe its cycle safely, then rush in for the analysis.

Yeah, cant give a good answer for the burid one, but as these was fully visible when found, and i kept an eye on it the whole time i had a researcher there. i had around 40-50c in the pooled water and a little lower in the air. They didn't seem to mind, well, all that much :)

I have one in my new game that i'm working down to. Don't know what type it is yet, but It's inside a salt biome so could be a saltwater one.
Fully buried and lacking dig-skill for now. I'll update with screenshots when i get to it.
