result, minecraft worlds are smaller, the bigger they get the crappier they run. same here, the more complex and numerous tasks your colony runs the slower it'll get.
1 packet of air for example, has 3 things its constantly tracking. path to destination, temp/heat exchange, germ count. the more of this kind of thing you've got going on the more of the CPU is being used to keep tracking these changes. multiply that by ever packet in your current world after about 200 cycles of building.
yeah switch aint happening without making the map very tiny, or some fundamental changes.
As previous posters already said, it's not about graphics, but the sheer amount of calculations going on which even PC's can't handle without heavy lag after a while.
