Why is there no oil at the bottom of Verdante?
I dug down on Verdante looking for the oil biomes at the bottom of the map. So far I've found a scalding slime biome and a scalding caustic biome. Where is the oil?

I must be playing with an Irregular Oil modifier, because I've been using an Oil Well that spawned at middle level in the asteroid to get oil thus far. But I'm running low on water and would like to cut that. So...WHERE'S THE OIL?!

So, I'm playing on Verdante and I know for a fact I don't have an irregular oil modifier, but I have two oil biomes near my base. I'm going to test some other playthroughs and see if it might have a natural modifier that changes the oil biome.

You can type in your seed in a new game to find what world modifiers you have.

You can reveal the map with the debug menu. If you don't want spoilers load a new verdante map to see what they generally look like.

However if you heat the oil into petroleum you not only get twice as much oil so it lasts longer, if you burn it in petroleum engines you actually get all of your water back.

I discovered back when I posted this that the vanilla Verdante map simply doesn't have the typical oil biome at the bottom of the map. The wiki describes this. It's intended because Verdante is a moderate difficulty map.
