Killing creatures...
I regularly wonder about how to kill critters automatically... It's not important, so I never really try to find a solution.
When the number of creatures in a stable reaches the max, they are sent to a room where they simply starve and die...
But now I somehow quickly get an important population waiting for death (!) and it would be more satisfying to get meat immediately.
Is there a way to kill them automatically without delay?

I coudn't find any way with the available tools so far. But maybe I simply don't think of a possible use...

With some automation you can drown them

Use critter sensors and a side-way mechanic door that open and close so critter drop down into pool of water that's just deep enough for drowning.. The door closing forces floating or hovering types down into the water...

Use autosweeper to manage eggs, eggshells and meats.

As for design layout, use your imagination.

Have you tried yourself opening doors and dropping critters through it? Because somehow I doubt that :-)

If not drop then fall. If all else fail, then raise the water level with a door.

Yeah, it was already suggested.
And it would be better for all if you don't give advices that don't work. Test first if you are not sure. Thanks in advance.

I'm only on my first base, but I have a 5 level stone hatch farm, most of the floors made from pneumatic doors so that coal and eggs fall to the bottom floor where they are autoswept and conveyor railed. A little outside of this area there is a water pit with an autodoor above it, with a critter dropoff placed on the door. Any overflow from the main ranches, (that isn't a hatchling, as they stay unfed and untended on the bottom floor until they are adults, in case any levels need replenishing) gets auto-wrangled into this area, then I periodically delete and rebuild the door. Automating it so the critters fell in didn't work, although I think it's possible to do so. I don't mind just rebuilding the door every 20 cycles or so, it's much better than attacking the hatches which takes ages and often gets dupes injured.

Of course it works.

What I do is I drop all eggs in a pool of water. To keep the population steady I have unpowered incubators which if empty will create a rescue errand for an egg.

I was not talking about rising water level, but about dropping critter via opening doors. The latter doesn't work. Don't spread misinformation like this.

OK. Thanks a lot to you all for ideas and comments. I had never thought of drowning them....
I'll have a try. Thanks again.

he said "..... so critter drop down into pool of water ..." which is correct, they do voluntarily drop down into a pool of water.

So you want to go about semantics here?
What if someone understands it that you can put critters on mechanized airlocks as a floor and when opening it critters should drop down to pit below, which could be deeper than 2 tiles?

This is something that worked few months ago, but is no longer a case. And I bet there are still tutorials suggesting this as a valid method, so I think we need to be clear that it doesn't work anymore and so misinformation is not spread.
