How to get rid of polluted water/Can't sweep polluted water because of unavailable storage bins
Hey guys!

Beginner here. Only played a few hours so far. I had a really good start with my most recent colony, but on cycle 13, they constantly keep making messes. My base exists of almost only polluted water bottles right now.
I've been trying to sweep them all. I made a separate room with a compost heap where I also built a storage bin and set the filter to "All"
Still, all of the polluted water bottles keep telling me I can't sweep them because there is no storage bin with fitting filter.
When looking through the All filters, I noticed there is no option for polluted water.
So, how do I get my dupes to store the water somewhere?

Disease has been breaking out, I'm constantly low on food and energy, and my dupes pissing everywhere doesn't really help. I don't really understand why they don't use the toilets when they have to piss. I currently have 2 toilets for 7 dupes which get rarely used. Dupes will rather piss themselves and continue working than actually using the toilet.
Toilets have everything they need. They are accessible, they have dirt, they are free to use, they still have visits remaining, I even sat bathroom time temporarily and manually moved a dupe that had to piss to the toilet. Guess what, he stood there for a second, showed a thumbs up and clapped his hands, ran back to his original work and pissed himself there.

Is this some weird kind of bug or something?

water bottles cannot be stored in bins, instead you dig a pit for them and build bottle emptier to empty them. also make sure your toilets are for public use and not assigned for specific dupe, maybe even build some more, 2 for 7 is not enough without setting scheludes

research technology there are things later on that can turn polluted water into different things.

Check out Skye Storme's you tube titled 'Oxygen Not Included - Full Release Guide' episodes 4 and 5. You may need to see episode 3 but I can't remember for sure.

If your dupes are messing themselves instead of using the toilets... there is an extremely high probability that the path to the toilets is blocked.

The other possibility is that your toilets are full... because you aren't emptying them.

Make sure that you have the following, set to priority 6, to ensure quick handling:

1) A compost bin... so that the toilets get emptied when they fill.
2) A polluted water pit/tank, with a bottle emptier like Maltsi said, and make sure you select polluted water as its liquid type.
3) Place a deodorizer next to these, as they will emit polluted oxygen that needs to be cleansed to clean oxygen.

Oh, and if you don't have it already... place a washbasin on the way out of the toilet to ensure they wash their hands and get rid of germs. It will also use the polluted water pit. And it will require that you put a manual pump over your clean water... as the washbasin needs clean water to operate.

I hope that helps.

As a sidenote - if your dupes keep peeing themselves due to lack of toilets but you don't want to build more (they're a waste of space) then make sure to use the "schedule" function at the top so they're not all trying to use the bathroom at the same time.

i.e 4 toilets and showers can serve 12 dupes easily if you divide them into 3 shifts that are offset by one schedule block, it's pretty much the equivalent of giving everyone their own bathroom.

It's already been mentioned, but Skye Storme's Youtube stuff will basically turn you into a wizard at this game.

Are his tutorials recent?

I ask because most of the YouTube tutorials that I find have become obsolete and misleading due to changes to the game. There is nothing more frustrating than spending hours learning things only to discover that the things and principles taught no longer work.

Lack of good, meaningful and understandable official tutorials combined with tons of YouTube misinformation is the main curse of this game. It ruins a lot of the fun.

I had already watched some of this series episodes for specific solutions, but I now started to watch it with a "let's play" mindset from start to end. I normally get bored by the ADHD mindset of most other let's play ONI series but I found Sky Storme presentation style quite enjoyable.

I got to episode 5 or 6 so far and while his designs so far are not earth shattering, they are certainly good enough. But more importantly, watching this series does give a decent insight into the game's thinking process.

*A must-watch for any beginner*, and both worth it and enjoyable for the rest.
