Cool Slush over Minor Volcano; Need Advice
So like the title says, I spawned in a rime world with these two practically on top of each other. Both of them were buried, so it saved me the trouble of having to deal with the magma early game, but now that I'm getting to steel refinement, I'm wondering if I could use the magma as a way to purify the water from the cool slush geyser by dropping that water on top of a future enclosed volcano and turning that water into steam, and then use the resulting steam to power some steam turbines before I send that hot, clean water off to somewhere else. Is this practical, or are there better uses for that geyser? Note that I have another cool slush geyser and a polluted water vent already tamed and being utilized.

Cold p-water is great for cooling, trying to boil it directly would be a waste. You can, however, cool something with it to heat it up to near-boiling temperature, dump it on magma, power steam turbine with it and use 95C clean water output from turbine for something. IMO it is not really worth the trouble. It would be easier to use this things separately. Use slush for cooling then either use it for some plants as is or sieve it and use clean water, and may be build some self-contained system on volcano for power production, but do not expect much power out of it.

yeah post a screen of your situation.

if done right, you can effectively make it a steam turbine farm and a way to use warmed up water to heat your base and farms to a comfortable level. just dont flood the volcano or it wont output so that part might be the only hard part of the design. might have to make sure you have enough space to dump the water to another location if need be.

So this is what I'm looking at

Since I avoided digging out the detection block, neither of them will blow until I want them to. That being said, that minor volcano is "Idle" while the cool slush is "Dormant." Like I said before, I'm on a rime world. The current temperature of most places is very below freezing. I see liquid chlorine on the outskirts of my fov.

Now, I do have a Natural Gas Geyser (using trig) aprox 43 blocks northeast of the slush geyser as well. Perhaps I could route some radiant pipes into there/the power plant I'll eventually build to keep everything cool, then reroute it to the minor volcano once it gets too warm?

Thing with rime is that while material temperatures are low once you dig stuff out and build your typical systems like power generation, oxygen generation and such they still output heat and eventually heat up, and still need cooling.
You might even build something near this pair to make use of slush before boiling it, and then once you get clean hot water output you can cool that using slush too. Or you can use slush to condense/cool down steam from cool steam vent if you have one relatively close. A lot of options to play around with :)

It is nice to not have to deal with slime lung early game though. And yeah, haven't found a steam vent yet. I'm hopeful though.
