No Geysers
Cannot find any geyser. Do they exist any more?

Same here, 45 cycles and no geysers...

I've found 1 water geyser and 1 natural gas geyser so far. They're in very inconvenient places. Maybe they became more rare in this version?

I think it has something to do with there being more objects available to be generated, thus sort of crowding out Geysers from generating.

I've done a quick test by starting 10 different new games and then use debug mode to reveal the whole map to locate and count the geysers, and the most I get was 5 geysers on the entire map (3 steam, 1 nat-gas, 1 chlorine). The worst I got was 3, and it had 2 steam and 1 nat-gas. No chlorine.

So there should always bound to be some geysers, but just a lot fewer than before. (Before the patch, the highest count I remember was like 14 total).

And it is a welcome change, the natgas geyser, just removed the power from the problem list, and water geyser is solved most of the water issues easily. Now if they are far, you forced to solve your power/water problem some other way or build large pipelines/wirenetworks.

I spawned close to 1 of each (must be more around as well) - just remember they just changed the appearance.

I've done some testing by changing the values in the mobs.yaml. Normally when changing the values spawns act accordingly, but not with Steam and Natural Gas Geysers anymore. You can double, tripple or more the values you just don't get more spawns. Just for fun I set it to 100 times more ... still no reactions only 1 or 2 of each on the hole map.

Actually I don't now how I should get enough energy and/or water in the long term with that. But the new debug tool allows selecting an area and copying it. It can copy Geyers as well. So at least I can spawn some additional. I would however prefer not to use this method and let the game distribute them especially since they motivate me to expand in a certain direction or to explore in general.

theres new chlorine geyers two.

I found out why. The new map is generated with rooms, even biomes are "rooms". Geysers are now placed with a room together not independtly. Thats why the mob.yaml values have no effect. Unluckily for us, it seems you cannot specify the probability of a "steam"-room or a "natural gas" room it's random and currently restricted to 1-2 of each per map. But you can place the rooms yourself in debug mode or as I wrote above copy and paste geyser-objects via the new clipboard feature in debug mode.

As GD had mentioned, the geysers are now grouped with the ruins as "place of interests" instead of simple creatures/seeds/objects.

According to Risu (veteran player/crazy code-manipulating squirrel of ONI) on the official forum, there are actually 5 entries of Geysers within the POI category, and the current map generation allows 1 max generation of each POI entry. In layman's term, the most geyser generation each map can get is 5.

I think geyser is the only way not to run out of resources eventually. Water and dirty water cannot reproduce. I'm now purify slime for dirty water but the germ is hard to deal with.

You're very right. It's just that with only 5 (max) per map, it's making it a lot harder to find a geyser in a timely manner (without cheating with debug mode).

It took me a while to find mine (cheated a little to find them pretty far away). You actually have to navigate around the obstacles (slimelung/chlorine chambers).

The difficulty of the game is being increased, which I welcome.
kasnavada Aug 25, 2017 @ 11:13pm
No, I agree with the OP.

It's fake difficulty, and it just makes the game longer but does nto increase difficulty once you've found thm.

The geysers are just way to uncommon now.

I personally am at day 60 and there is no geyser in sight despite me uncovering half of the map.

PS:
Yeaaaah and I tried debug mode, there is 2 steam geyser and 1 natural gaz placed about the farthest possible from my base and all grouped in a single direction.

That's just very inconvenient and unfun.

Also, there seems to be an issue with cold biomes, while they do exist, they're also much rarer than before.

No water geysers on my map..... and I heat snow and ice way past 100deg F yet THEY WONT MELT! Everyone died cause no water.

I've just now found a Steam Geyser. Granted, it's not /that/ far away. But not only is it on the "wrong" side of my base to utilize well (on the side my bathroom is), I'm also pretty throuroughly blocked by Slimelung below and to the left of my base, where my clean water tank would go, and on the lower right below the geyser by a MASSIVE chamber full of Chlorine that I don't have the infrastructure to deal with.
