I've done a quick test by starting 10 different new games and then use debug mode to reveal the whole map to locate and count the geysers, and the most I get was 5 geysers on the entire map (3 steam, 1 nat-gas, 1 chlorine). The worst I got was 3, and it had 2 steam and 1 nat-gas. No chlorine.
So there should always bound to be some geysers, but just a lot fewer than before. (Before the patch, the highest count I remember was like 14 total).
Actually I don't now how I should get enough energy and/or water in the long term with that. But the new debug tool allows selecting an area and copying it. It can copy Geyers as well. So at least I can spawn some additional. I would however prefer not to use this method and let the game distribute them especially since they motivate me to expand in a certain direction or to explore in general.
According to Risu (veteran player/crazy code-manipulating squirrel of ONI) on the official forum, there are actually 5 entries of Geysers within the POI category, and the current map generation allows 1 max generation of each POI entry. In layman's term, the most geyser generation each map can get is 5.
I think geyser is the only way not to run out of resources eventually. Water and dirty water cannot reproduce. I'm now purify slime for dirty water but the germ is hard to deal with.
The difficulty of the game is being increased, which I welcome.
It's fake difficulty, and it just makes the game longer but does nto increase difficulty once you've found thm.
The geysers are just way to uncommon now.
I personally am at day 60 and there is no geyser in sight despite me uncovering half of the map.
PS:
Yeaaaah and I tried debug mode, there is 2 steam geyser and 1 natural gaz placed about the farthest possible from my base and all grouped in a single direction.
That's just very inconvenient and unfun.
Also, there seems to be an issue with cold biomes, while they do exist, they're also much rarer than before.
