How would you deal with polluted water early?
So since pollution ='s disease and to control disease we need the wash basins, that means we face quite quickly the problem of polluted water in our base. Since polluted water produces polluted air and infects everything it touches how do you deal with it before you get the technology to make things easier or the distance to make a polluted zone?

Also as a side note. If you have a duplicant have an accident and any of it gets in the water supply your basicly frelled. The small patch of polluted water will infect your entire water basin. Meaning you cant clean your base untill you unlock advanced research because to santise your water supply you need: Pumps, filters, decent energy setup and tepidisers. Oh and air cleaning tech to stop the polluted air repoluting your whole base.

This patch really means you need to setup a full pollution zone right inside your base quite early, before you have a chance to unlock water or air cleaning.

I built a small basin with a bottle emptier and an airlock. Oddly, the polluted oxygen does not seem to carry germs, at least not food poisoning germs. I'm not up to handling slimelung yet.
[Edit:] Ah, I can see that slimelung does transmit in the air, so challenging times are ahead.
[DoubleEdit:] Food poisoning does too, but it dies REALLY fast.

I figured this out before diseases came out. I always build two cisterns to hold my water supply, one fresh, one polluted. Usually 6-8 squares wide, ladders on both sides, mesh platform in the middle to hold related equipment. The polluted cistern gets a door with a deodorizer right outside, and now a washbasin just past that for anyone who has to go in to restock the water filter.

An important thing is to keep your polluted cistern below your fresh cistern. If anything happens to breach the wall, it's a lot easier to deal with fresh water in your polluted cistern than the other way around. It's also a good idea to keep the fresh cistern above most of your base, to avoid most duplicant accidents.

Its not all that hard to deal with really just let it flow into a pit or bottle - unbottle it into said pit. The wash basin handles most dup bug carring issues as long as you prio keeping it filled and place many of them strategically.

As for polluted water in your main clean water supply you can still mop small amounts of liquid into bottles and the plus side to this patch is that your dups won't mop your entire water supply.

Yeah but that doesnt work in large volumes of water like your water supply. and that leaves your entire water pit inffected untill you can tepidise it into almost boiling. And a infected water source will infect everything that uses its water.

Am I missing something? Just pump your polluted water into the same place your clean water is. The polluted water will sink to the bottom. Put your pump near the surface, and the pump will always draw clean water. Bonus: Polluted water with a layer of clean water on top generates zero polluted oxygen.

The main issue for me now, is there is actually 2 kinds of polluted water, just polluted water, and infected water. Water filters don't remove infection, which is kinda stupid. maybe there should be an option to put some bleach stone in the water filter to clean out food poisoning also.

Easy. I just use a Bottle Emptier to take the water from the Wash Basins and put it into a hole where CO2 accumulates. As long as the polluted water has no contact with oxygen, it cannot spread into my oxygen supply. With good ol' heavy CO2 laying on top of it and inhibiting the growth of microbes, I can safely store any amount of polluted water without fuss.

I am doing the same thing as Setokaiva above. I have ladder into a small basin just outside my base with a double airlock that holds a hatch and my outhouses. It is working fine for me. As for infected water. You just have to drink it at the moment but the real question is how did the water get infected in the first place? Infection should only come if you are mixing polluted water with clean water as polluted water creates polluted oxygen. Then polluted oxygen creates infected air which will then infect the water.

Problem is not storing it, its running out of clean water all together.

You shouldn't run out of clean water before you manage to tech up to Water Purifiers. Oh, by the way, remember to put a Wash Basin near your purifiers if you can, because those make Polluted Dirt as a byproduct, which is very nasty for your dupes to handle.

As for dealing with germs inside liquid, that's a lot harder, since not even a Water Purifier gets rid of them. The only two methods I can think of are A) dump liquid chlorine into it (you'd have to cool it down a lot first), and B) boil it into steam, which is a lot harder than it looks.

Atm you need to find a geyser much quicker than before now. There is also a feature/bug you can abuse to get rid of polluted water w/o worry. Hatches can now eat bottle materials like other stuff and poo out coal.

OMG AquaX that is a briliant thought. Dig a basin, trap a hatch or 2 in it. Close it up except 1 ladder add a door. Pump polluted water in and then quickly mop it up and leave for hatches.

and I have no hatches near my current basin... DAMN YOU ONI!

I found this out when my dupes made a mess and I mop it up. Then I saw my hatches ran and ate and was like wtf, then it poo out coal and was like O.o.
