Seeds "automatically" replant themselves
Just wanted to throw this out there.

New plants aren't popping up randomly. I saw somebody had posted that Thimble Reed randomly grows in the biome.

It's not random, its because a seed fell to the ground or you dug up seeds or you were carrying it and it was dropped.

The seeds will replant themselves into the ground if its possible.

This happens to Wheezewort Seed as well.

Not sure about the other seeds but I'm imaging they also behavior similarly.

All seeds can self plant if u do not store it. The issue is that they grow slowly but can reach excellent yield.

That is impossible if u domesticate it since those grow faster but u need to match all their ideal conditions every cycle for their entire growth period to get excellent yield.

yeah natural plants take 4 times as long to grow as farmed ones.

I think the only one that cant self grow is the one that hangs from the ceiling. maybe there is a way for that. dunno.

The pepper plant technically is much easier to grow compared to other due to 1 main issue: Your base will start cooking the instant you use a geyser.

Well, domesticated plants may grow much faster, but they require resources, while wild ones aren't. But why do we need to grow them faster when we can grow many of them. Not that we are so limited in space.
So, what I'm thinking about is to "plant" wild plants, a lot of them. And get free food not requiring farming (except for harvesting, of course). Pincha isn't an option, except one that is already growing wildly, but sleet wheat with bristle blossom is great option. They'd give berry sludge with food quality of 3 without any input resources.

The trick you can use is have a storage container on the spot you want, sweep the seed to that container, deconstruct said container, and let nature do its work.

N-n-n-necro. Seeds don't self-plant anymore (except for wheezewort, apparently). It was changed during some update to agriculture a year or so ago. But, yeah, if you could spread a ton of plants over space for free food, it would make farming a less efficient option.

Oh... I see.. I've tried to google this, if plants are able or unable to replant themselves, but didn't found any actual info, while I've seen that wheezeworts are replanting themselves. So I've thought that all plants do.
Too bad. Food production is way too expensive now, considering how hard it is to find geysers and how little water they give and how much effort and energy one need to cool that water to comfortable temperatures.
I think I should try to keep wild pincha and keep a lot of wild criters for meat, bbq is an option too.
