You can build stuff from different materials, u see it when click on the object u want to build a smaller longer box appear next to it.
Individual constructions can be deconstructed by selecting them and hitting the deconstruct button in the info window.
Yes, yes you can. When you first select the object you are about to build, before you place it, at the extra panel that opens next to the build menu. Below the description of the item, there should be a series of boxes with various materials in them. Mousing over the materials will give you a summary of (most of) their benefits. For example, Sandstone (poorly) indicates that it increases the Decor value of the object by 10%.
Currently, Granite is pretty overpowered, because it increases the Decor value bo 20%, increases the thermal resiliance of the object substantially, and when constructing blocks increases their pressure resistance.
