Help me understand how to utilize vacuums?
anyone help explain or tell me a good use for them. I always seem to avoid them and redo maps which large vacuums I have to work around because I know they suck up gas..but not sure how to use them or what for.

Best is that they can sterilize ur ration box so it won't go bad so fast. Other than that, u just need it for space at best.

Well, with them you can get rid of any useless gases they put out once in a life time (as well as Chlorine which occurs naturally, Hydrogen may also be seen as bother)

Chlorine best find herd some morbs and they will eat it. Hydrogen u can build a pump to transfer it to ur hydrogen farm.

if enough oxygen is generated with algae deoxidizer and electrolizer, a bit of vacuum here and there won't be a problem

There's no reason to avoid vacuums. Wall off the main base and pressurize new areas as needed.

I used one to pump a bunch of unwanted co2 out of my base. I thought it would solve my co2 problems for a while, but it filled up to max pressure surprisingly quickly.

Current system only allows 1.9-2.2kg of gas volume per block.
Pumping CO2 out doesnt solve the issue the fact that CO2 is still being built up. You need a CO2 scrubber or algae terrarium to remove the CO2. At least with polluted water u can just mop it up. Best is create a bowl like shape at the bottom of ur base and put a CO2 scrubber there in the middle of the bowl. You can sink the scrubber a little more so u can be sure the CO2 will hit it. You usually just need 1 since they work super fast if u built ur base w/ that in mind.

The ones you're talking about aren't really an issue.. and can be used/filled at need

In theory*... Vacuums don't transmit heat, you can create one around your base and use it to insulate your base from the external temperature if you need to...
to be completely effective you'll need to not connect any materials between the inner and outer wall of the vacuum chamber.

* I have not tested this theory as of yet.
