How to cool liquids
Im trying to cool geyeser water.
So I've tried snaking the pipe all over a cold biome but all it did was heat up the area and none of the water never cooled down even a degree.
I've made a run of so far 5 weezeworts (in process of 5 more) and snaked the pipe behind them but nothing happened.
I've added several boxes full of ice to that line with no effect but melted ice.
I havent tried running it through a vacuum yet but I don't know if that works and it seems like it would be hard build for nothing.
Can somebody please give me some pointers?

When tapping into a geyser mid game to take advantage of endless clean water. Make sure to dig a path down to an ice biome where you can have a holding tank with only sides and a bottom, to allow cool air to cool the water down before pumping it into your base. Do this before opening up the geyser so that the water will (preferably fall) or flow down into the cold zone. Hook up a switch to your water pump (made of gold) so that you can pump the water in, only after it has cooled down enough that it wont heat up your base terribly. Don't forget to use insulated pipes as well.

hydrofans. you have free water already so just use hydrofans all around

Thanks I'll give it a try

Best solution I've seen that uses least amt of effort is have a much larger pool ready to receive the geyser water. Apparently the system overrides the weaker water temp when it hits a stronger water pool.

Who cares about cooling it? Just use it for showers and lavatories instead!

U can actually overheat ur dupes if they shower in hot water. I had that issue when I straight pumped it to shower

The pipes you run that hot water through will conduct the heat into your base as well. This won't seem so bad for the first 25 cycles or so, but beyond that, it will start to have a very large impact on the temperatures inside your base as time goes on...

Stick a storage container in your water tank semi submerged and fill it with ice, it acts like a cold generator but its more effective if you dump the ice from the container. my ice has been keeping my main water tank at nominal temps even though I pump 70c water directly into it, although dependant on the amount of ice you may need to stop pumping for a cycle or two to let the temps balance out.

As for the ice melting, if you stack a full container and empty it onto a tile in water it heats up at a rate of around 0.1c per cycle which at -22 or so starting point it takes a long time and I'm not completely sure if it will actually melt but even if it does its pure ice.

It took me several cycles but I finally made an aquaduct from a geyser to my west to a cold area below my base. I'm hoping to be able to run them into each other. So far though the water hasn't cooled at all, it's at about 170f ish still after several cycles even though the air temp is like 20f or so around there. My base tank is up like 110f from running it directly in it the last while. I've got several hydro fans going above the base tank as well as several ice only storage boxes. I do have two coal gens being cooled by drips right above the tank so that probably brings it up some but I haven't had a single overheat problem since I set it up. I'm going to start planting weezeworts above the geyser holding tank to see if that helps. I just wish there was a cooling fan for water pipes like the gas one.

you can try my system for liquid oxygen, sure it's work for steam and liquid, now i can cool down everything i want next to -200°C

That's a very interesting system. I'll have to study it some more

For the moment i test it only to made liquid oxygen (to have not polluted oxygen), but i will test soon to stock solid carbon dioxyde in it at the same time, probably stock the chlorine gas in solid or liquid form, and thinking to cool down a geyser with my liquid oxygen i want to heat.

Could be a perfect a perfect all in one system, only take a lot of energy to go to -200°C

but if you want only cool down some steam and liquid at +20°C you could do it easily and warm up a little your base using only oxygen and not hydrogen like me (i needed a gas with a very low liquid point since the update to not break my pipe)

Yeah I wouldn't need it liquid. It's interesting what you've made is basically a real life air conditioner condenser loop. Do you mind documenting on one of your screenshots some of your settings? Some of the things you can't see in a screenshot?
Flydo Apr 4, 2017 @ 10:51am
you mean thermoswitch setting?

I think I have it figured out now. I made 4 pump lines. One cooling loop. One for my geyser water tank. One for my base water tank. And one for my polluted water treatment room cause it's a bit too hot. It took forever to cool the geyser water any but it happened very suddely when it finally changed, probably a quirk of the calculations.
