Unreachable
I suggest extending Dupe range by 1. The current range seems a bit too inhibiting so unless I'm mistaken everyone's rooms will be a max of 4 high which to me seems a bit small for creativity, making everyone's base just a boring collection of short hallways. This suggestion is more of a big quality of life suggestion and I don't think it would totally unbalance the game or anything like that. This would also greatly help when building upward.

Bigger rooms also seem to greatly enhance the utility of the goofy ceiling lamps as they get exponentially better the further they have to shine so it seems. The floor lamps seem a bit outrageous since you'd have to build one every few blocks for max coverage.

Ladders for days! Ha.

Meh, seems fine as it is. You are given a cheap tool to reach places you need to that your duplicates cannot reach, when done, you get 100% of your resources back.

I mean sure ladders are a work around but it seems a hassle to constantly build and deconstruct ladders. As a compromise if there are any balance concerns maybe a range upgrade in research?

Well yeah, that falls under the catigory of content. It is a hidden alpha after all.

Likely why you get everything back when deconstructing and will most likely not be the case come full release.

what would this one extra block do for you? all rooms would then be 5 high =/ and if you want to maximize your light usage use mesh tiles. light passes through them up to 6-8 blocks.
my bedrooms are 4 high so i can fit lamps, beds and a painting, one row of gas permeable tiles and some algea terrariums in a 2 high room below.
What could need changing would be that dupes dig from top to bottom like building a ladder/framework and digging it layer by layer downwards.

I keep ending up with situations where my dupes see an area as 'unreachable'. Until I move them right up to the border. Then suddenly they can find it. Problematic if I've got a corpse to move and didn't realize they couldn't find it for days.

4 years later and this still sucks.

Uprooting plants or destroying buildings (many of them in big rooms) just to be able to get lamps and lines into the ceiling is stupid and an assload of micromanagement (exactly the thing you DO NOT want in games like these) and completely anti immersion.

Should have been changed years ago.

You can only reach 4 tile high. Meaning you can build a roof standing on flat ground.

I get the mod that increase dig ranch by 1. It makes life so much easier.

If you are use the the 4 tile bottle neck great. If you used the 1 tile more you'd never want to do back.
