Where it really gets tricky is if you want 100% sustainability with clean air. To do this, you pretty much just do the above, but then you need to find some Pufts and trap them, most easily is in just a giant vertical corridor so that their Slime drops some hundred odd tiles closer to your base from where you found them for easy pickings. They're nonhostile, so you can just build them very slowly into the corridor, blocking off their retreat and forcing them in gradually. You move your contaminated soil lockers underneath the corridor so contaminated oxygen is flooding up into the passage for the Pufts to consume. At the top of the passage you want gas-permeable blocks so that the clean air Pufts produce as a by-product flows out top and then down into your base, because clean Oxygen is lighter than Contaminated Oxygen. Using this infinite supply of Slime, you convert it into Algae using Bio Distillers, and use Hydro Cooling to reduce heat generated from your power supplies and your Distillers. Now you have an endless, but slow (depending on your number of trapped pufts), supply of Algae, with which to fuel more clean oxygen production and CO2 algae traps. Although, CO2 never really proves to be an issue as far as I've experienced, maybe because of my massive farm helping to filter it. You'll probably need to ramp up your Duplicant count to keep up with heat output and to generate the water necessary. I myself am still busy trying to trap a number of pufts, so far only having 2.
All in all it takes maybe an hour and a half for 100% sustainability with contaminated oxygen, but much longer if you want to challenge yourself to get clean air and give your Duplicants a decent standard of living. Even with clean air, you'll still want your duplicants peeing themselves to generate water, but you can save them the stress of vomitting because they aren't breathing contaminated air 24/7.
I had to do it that way as there was a crash which may be resolved now so you could use less coolers that vent into the same room then have a liquid pump to pump out the liquid oxygen(this used to ctd)
The trick is to never pick violent colonists, then stress just means free water
This sounds good on paper but does not actually work. Pufts die from being chilled by the slime balls. The contaminated oxygen released by slime ball is around 15-16 Celsius. This is too cold for the Pufts. They all perish from being chilled if you do not actively heat up the contaminated oxygen. Many people have asked where their Pufts have gone. This is why.
This is what is know as an exploit though. :)
Guys your bases are dead, tainted and over with. Just because it's Alpha and it's not fleshed out enough yet for the game to smack you with a "You gone failed mate" state, doesn't mean you've succeeded. :p
Just face reality.

You're really not getting the gist of what I said are you?
