Crashes on Startup
Sup,

Few of my mates wanted to start playing again so I reinstalled DoW. I can't play it at all. When I start the game either through Steam or the .exe the game will randomly crash to desktop during the Sega, Relic, DivX or game intro.

I tried using -nomovies in the launch options (as you can't skip them on first play) and this gets me past the loading screen to the menu where you login. I'll be at that screen for a maximum of a second before the game either crashes to desktop or freezes with a sound loop and I have to end task.

I've tried using various options in the graphics config, I've tried windowed mode, I've tried safe mode, I've tried running as admin with all the different compatability modes, I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled four times and nothing is making it work.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or knows a fix? I just want some nostalic games with my buddies lol!

I'm assuming you've tried the solutions listed in the sticky thread called "Troubleshooting Tips", but in your case, there are only a few things left to try.
1. changing compatibility mode to Windows 98/me (do this on the Soulstorm.exe file in your install directory)
2. run "GraphicsConfig.exe" and see if you can setup your graphic options with simpler settings.
3. run the game with the "-nomovies" start option (Right click on your Steam game title, click properties, click "set launch options", type "-nomovies".
4. Try to verify your cache (right click on your Steam game title, click properties, click "Local Files" tab, click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..."
5. Make sure your OS is updated to the latest patch.
6. Change your video card driver to an older or newer version.

I've run out of ideas. I will investigate further but we've tried just about everything at this point.

When going into set launch options, you want me to type "-nomovies" with or without quotations? (Bypassed this and attempted to run the game without doing this, was successful see next post for what I have done)

FYI:

Changed compatibility to 98/ME, lowered refresh rate to 70Mhz as opposed to the 75Mhz and changed from the "default" setting to my NVIDIA card, successful test.

Ran game, game operates!

Here's the catch. It has ran successfully before in the past...only to quit the game when I am done, attempt to go back in at a later time or the next day and encounter this same issue again.

With that said, I am providing my current Warnings.log below (even if it is the same) since the game is running, perhaps if this happens again (which it might) we can compare THIS warnings.log with the one that appears when the game is dropping me back to windows:

Warnings.log (Game Functioning this time, used ALT+TAB to leave game running in the background to type you this message)

Ah good news. It looks like there is something unusual with the video card setting. Hope your game continues to run. If you have any issues with Soulstorm, please post on the Soulstorm Community forum, and we'll try to work out any issues there.
